Five arrested in suspected bridge bombing plot near Cleveland

Five people, claiming to be anarchists, have been arrested in Cleveland for trying to blow up a four-lane bridge across the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The public was never in danger from the devices, according the FBI. The explosive devices were inoperable and controlled by an undercover FBI agent. Charges against the suspects were filed Tuesday morning in Cleveland.

Douglas Wright, 26, Brandon Baxter, 20, and Anthony Hayne, 35, were arrested Monday and charged with conspiracy and attempted use of explosive material to damage physical property affecting interstate commerce, according to WEWS-NewsNet5 in Cleveland. Two other men, Connor Stevens, 20, and Joshua Stafford, 23, were also arrested, but not charged, the station reported.

The suspects were targeting the state Route 82 bridge that spans the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, according to WEWS. More than 13, vehicles travel over the bridge each day, and 2.1 million people visit the national park each year, the station reported.

The suspects had bought fake explosives and placed them near the bridge Monday. The suspects were arrested after 9 p.m. Monday, the station reports.

The suspects had considered a series of plots over several months. Among the alternative targets was the Veteran's Memorial Bridge, according to WEWS.

The suspects' initial plot involved the use of smoke grenades to distract law enforcement in order to topple signs of financial institution on high rise buildings in downtown Cleveland, according to the federal complaint.

One of the suspects had said during the planning of the attacks that they were against corporate America and financial institutions, and not merely random acts of violence, the complaint states.

The plot later developed to the utilization of explosive materials, and the five men allegedly conspired to obtain C-4 explosives contained in two improvised explosive devices to be placed and remotely detonated, according to the complaint.

One of the suspects, Wright, had talked about driving a car into the Federal Reserve Bank to blow it up, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The FBI's Cleveland office is displaying a photo of the apparent bridge in question, according to WEWS-NewsNet5 in Cleveland. The state Route 82 bridge is in Brecksville, south of Cleveland.

Terrorists, yes, but they swing neither left nor right. If we have to label them, I'd call them Libertarian terrorists - the whole independence, get rid of the Fed ideology. But that doesn't really fit either because they are really just assholes. Terrorist assholes if you prefer.

It seems the 5 were connected with the Occupy movement.  I'm guessing that's why the MSM isn't reporting this story.  I can assure you if a group connected in any way to the Tea Party had done something like this it would be all over the media.

How can you say that the MSM isnt reporting this? I found 2 seperate articles, one on yahoo news and the other from Google news.

Good grief.

Deflection?  I was just commenting like many others.  It seems some thought no one would have anything to say since the terrorist didn't appear to be Muslims.  What responses were you looking to get?  And what exactly am I deflecting?

Quoting muslimahpj:

You didnt say anything about it, you just went straight to deflection, which seems to be your MO.

What you brought up has nothing to do with what the articles is about.

Deflecting from what the article is about and trying to turn this into a hate on the President party for yourself.

Didnt you once "jump" all over me in a different post, because I responded to another poster instead of replying to the post itself? I mean, you were all bent out of shape because I came into a thread and had the gall to not even mention the op. Funny, you do it quite often, but, I guess thats ok, right?

Sorry I don't recall jumping all over you about anything.  What was your question I must have missed it in your OP?
