NUTLEY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A New Jersey mother appeared in court Wednesday on accusations that she allowed her 6-year-old daughter to tan at a salon.

1010 WINS' John Montone reports

Patricia Krentcil, 44, is charged with child endangerment after she said her daughter Anna showed up at school with a sunburn.

When asked how she got it, Krentcil said her daughter told the school nurse "I go tanning with mommy."

Police were called to the girl's elementary school and Krentcil was arrested.

Krentcil denies the charge, saying she "would never permit" her daughter to go tanning.

"I'm a great mother, I'm a wonderful mother," Krentcil said to the press as she entered the court Wednesday.

Krentcil admits to bringing Anna into the salon but says she's never allowed the fair-skinned girl into the tanning bed.

"It didn't happen," Krentcil said. "She's 6-years-old. Yes, she does go tanning with mommy, but not in the booth."

Krentcil said her daughter's burn actually came from playing outside.

In New Jersey, anyone under the age of 14 is prohibited from using tanning salons.

Krentcil was released to authorities in Camden County on an outstanding warrant on a municipal charge after posting $25,000 bond.

Quoting wickedfiress:

Does she also have a black lipliner tattoo?  :/

I agree the moms IS scary looking, but I too, can not say if the child actually went into the tanning booth.

Yes, that is lip liner, maybe the tattoo kind? I don't know much about that, but she is obviously sporting some lip liner action.

I also don't know/care if the child went in the tanning bed ...(well I care if she did) but I mean, I already think there is plenty of cause for concern outside of whether or not Jr. went in the bed.

FLORENCE, Ala. (WAAY) - Florence Police have arrested and charged a 29 year old woman with Child Abuse.

The incident happened Sunday night at a home on Crown Street. Tabitha Liles and her three year old son were visiting friends at the time. Florence Police Detective Justin Wright says Liles got upset with the boy when she tried to call it a night, but he wanted to stay. “She got ready to leave and got up and told the little boy they were leaving. The boy said he didn’t want to go yet; he wanted to stay and play with friends.” Wright told our news partner, the Times Daily.

Wright says that Liles got up and kicked the child in the chest. Another adult who witnessed the incident got up and protected the child from any further attack. “I don’t know if she was going kick him again, but an adult that was at the residence quickly jumped up and stopped her from doing anything else,” Wright said. Liles left the home a short time later, and the child remained with the friends.

Police were called Monday morning, and the DHR was brought in to assist with the investigation. Liles came back to the friend's home Monday afternoon to pick up the child. “The people there wouldn’t give him back to (Liles) and they called police again,” Wright said. “I happened to be nearby and answered the call and took her into custody.”

Liles is facing Child Abuse charges and is being held on $5,000 bond.

I watched a mother last night on the bleachers with me tend to her very active 2 year old, her 8 year old, while watching her 10 year old play a baseball game. I watched and marveled at how good it feels to see good mother(ing). And yes, it IS the hardest most exhaustive job, but dammit somebody has to do it.

 eta: bleachers/bleechers? lol

am I missing something?  She said she took her to the salon, not put her in the tanning bed ... I'm not quite sure I understand what the problem is ...
