I had the strangest conversation

With a guy. A political one. He claims the country's debt problem would be cured if everything from weed to heroine was legalized. He also claimed that warren Jeffs should not be in prison, & people of different religions should be able to do ANYTHING that they feel follows their religion. If something horrible happens, the parents should be held accountable, not the perpetrator. *facepalm* I couldn't even wrap my mind around what he was saying.

I think so lol.

No, but he is a supporter. I can have a political debate with just about anyone, but I was freaking speechless lol.

Sounds like an *extreme* Libertarian.

I personally believe marijuana should be legalized and taxed, and that in principle, other drugs should be legalized as well, though I'm morally conflicted on this issue.

Religious practice should be limited to what is legal in a given state. No special treatment.

Warren Jeffs, however, should be in prison. He married and raped girls under the age of 16, which was and is illegal in Utah.

The country could be helped by legalizing drugs but it would not fix the debt because they would just spend the increased revenue.

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver

Most of that is nuts. It is proven that we would have less of a drug problem if it were legalized though. And taxing it would definitely help things but it won't ever happen.

So here is my view. Some of what he said is insane, mostly the part about how parents should be held responsible instead of the perp. But I do think most drugs should be legalized, especially the natural ones (marijuana, shrooms, etc). I'm also for prostitution and polyamy being legalized- so long as all involved are fully consenting adults. But I don't think legalizing these things would fix all the country's financial problems. That would take the politicians actually stopping the crazy spending they have been doing for the past who knows how many years.
