Ashton Kutcher Popchips ad yanked offline after some call it racist

Updated: May 3, 2012 11:06AM

LOS ANGELES — An online ad featuring Ashton Kutcher as an Indian man has been pulled offline after viewers called it racist.

The images and video for Popchips feature the 34-year-old “Two and a Half Men” star in brown makeup portraying a Bollywood producer named Raj who is “looking for love.” They were removed from YouTube and Facebook after being criticized online.

Other videos featuring Kutcher as a stoner, tattooed Southerner and pasty fashionista remain online.

A spokeswoman for Popchips says the dating parody featuring the four characters was “created to provoke a few laughs and was never intended to stereotype or offend anyone.” She added that the company hopes “people can enjoy this in the spirit it was intended.”

A spokeswoman for Kutcher hasn’t return messages seeking comment.

Do you think it was racist or was it an over reaction?

Fear of serious injury alone cannot justify oppression of free speech and assembly. Men feared witches and burnt women. It is the function of speech to free men from the bondage of irrational fears.

I find some people opinions about this being racist a tad over sensitive.

IMO it's clear that it's a parody.

Come on!

So the cast(s) of SNL are all Racists.

As is the cast of MadTV, In Living Color, and the Disney show That's So Random.

That was my first thought too.

I dunno. There is a line and the line gets blurred, but I don't think these guys cross it because they aren't trying to push legislation or an agenda.
