“Welfare Queen” is a term used to describe a woman, regardless of race, that has children just for the benefit of welfare and free housing.

In western culture this woman is the lowest of low. She is scum.

All women that are single mothers and are on any governmental assistance, or use any other form of it, are depicted as welfare queens.

The “welfare queen” is a woman who is fraudulent, a woman who has no place in life, who does not work hard, and is not trying to make anything of herself.

These women are the scapegoats in a society that has to find someone to blame for the mistakes of others.

They are the reluctant victims, the ones who unintentionally received this attention.

So basically, these women are victims because they are not married and they have no real stable income, so their only option to have some stability is through governmental assistance.

As long as our society is looking for someone to blame, these women will continue to be the scapegoats.

They will continue to have a name of ‘gold digger,’ whore, or what have you.

Do you think there are still Welfare Queens?

Fear of serious injury alone cannot justify oppression of free speech and assembly. Men feared witches and burnt women. It is the function of speech to free men from the bondage of irrational fears.

They do exist but not in the true definition provided when the term was originally coined. I know many who intentionally have children and space them so that they keep benefits for food, housing, childcare, child healthcare and even the medicaid coverage for themselves by being pregnant. It's a sad shame that other's are helped so little because the allowance has to be split by many who haven't fallen on hard times but purposefully create the situation to be in need. I think all benefits should be upped to be a real hand up and then make criteria so tight that you end the cheats and really help those in need.

Do you think that by having more kids, one does get more money?  I don'know where I heard this, but I heard that people DON'T get more money for more kids.  Also, that in each State there is a limit of how long you can collect.  Not sure, I think you can collect FS forever.  I heard Octomom finally admitted that she DOES get Assistance (and she lives in my State :()  She gets $2000/mo.

I live in Calif. too.  :)  I hear that in some States?  That a person can't get more money if they have more kids, is that true?  I'm beginning to believe that there just may be  more ppl on Disability too.  When their unemployment ran out, alot applied for Disability.  My thing is, HOW do they get approved?  I really believe, that Obama wants that.  That's is how he will win the election, IF he wins.  By, all those that get PA, Disability...There's SO many in this Country now because of Obama, that I would think MOST would vote for him.  Because, they don't want to lose their benefits.  Obama knows that.  It's sad that Obama has to go that route & break this Country more.  But, then again, he can't win on his record.  Sad.

Quoting PortiaRose:

Wow. You can't have children for more benefits, anymore. At least not in CA... but I think that person exists. I think people live off of disability more than anything else nowadays.

The ignorance astounds me.

I voted no. At least not in my city. I am single mom and I have NEVER gotten free housing. I pay 600$ a month for my 4 bedroom apartment plus I pay all the bills. I have NEVER received money. We have a W2 program here but they still make u work or volunteer. You work 40 hours a week for 700$ a month. I would rather work a real job than work for that pay! Where ever the handouts are they are not here.

That is a huge apartment for very little money.  Is that the rent anyone would pay?

This can describe a married sahm too, living off husband. Not contributing financially to household.

They are few and far between, going by the definition described in the OP.

There will always be those who work hard at remaining on welfare versus working hard to get off of it.  This is nothing new.

If men could have babies, there would be a hell of a lot of 'welfare kings' as well.

Now this is something I have never heard before.

I would not call any SAHM such a thing.  I would, however, hope that mom has a back up plan, just in case.
