For those against gay marriage... why?

Posted by   + Show Post

I'm genuinely curious here...

Affording the right to marry the person you chose to be with seems very basic to me. So I admit that I really don't understand the opposition to gay marriage. In an attempt to see through the eyes of the other side, what reasons do those of you who disapprove have for it?

Is it a fear that it will open the door to other things? If so, what?

Is it a general disapproval of the gay lifestyle?

Is it religion based?

Do you feel it will somehow impact your marriage and/or family? Your community?

Or is it something else all together?

I don't like the fact that people are using a book I don't even believe in to dictate laws about my life.

Oh and I can not stand when someone pulls out the homosexual quote out of Leviticus but continue to eat pork and shellfish, wear clothing with mixed fibers, etc.

You prayed away your bi-sexuality in case it was wrong? Oh hell, you bring god into this mess. I am sure god approves porn. Oh hell.

Quoting rockinmomnwife:

Actually the bible clearly states that the old testament (or mosaic) laws do not have to be followed anymore since Christ came. And I know some of those that you mentioned are in the OT. There is a verse in Romans that MAY be talking about homosexuality. I am saying maybe because I thought that is what it was referring to but some people disagree.
Anyway to the point of the post. I am a Christian but I don't like using the term religious. No one knows wether or not homosexuality is wrong to God or not and it is up to God to judge us, not humans judging humans. Not only that but we are all sinners.  It should be the persons choice who they want to love and if it is wrong that is between them and God; they are in no way harming anyone else. Let them be happy! God says the law of the land is our law so as of now and sex outside of marriage is against God... since gays/lesbians can not be married in most states legally they should not be having sex, if they want to follow what God says.
On a personal note, I have messed around with a couple of girls sexually; I longed to be with girls physically and their bodies turned me on. I used to watch girl on girl porn and it turned me on. My husband suggested we watch some porn like we used to do on the occasion. I told him I did not feel it was right but he said we were watching it together so it was okay.I gave in and It did nothing for me but bore me! I know I was bisexual but God had a change in me because I had prayed about this a few times before; I did not want to feel this way in case it was wrong.

for those that say its because of religion, is that the only thing that you disapprove of?  The bible has a truck load of things that it considers sinful and wrong.  Have you ever cut your hair? sin, Do you have a tattoo? sin, have you or do you have sex just for shits and giggles? sin, gotta make that baby, Have you ever spoken ill or been mean to someone else? sin, I could go on and on, but I am guessing you get the idea.  It must be very convenient to pick and chose what you (general you)  want to hide behind and call it God's law:/

Words get redefined all the time. Words can mean many things. Like the word gay for example it means happy, joyful or bright, showy or it means homosexual.  What dose it really matter if the word marriage Means a union between two consenting adults who want to share a life with each other. Its really not the end of the world. They have a right to call there marriage a marriage just like what straight people do.

Quoting ZsMommy:

Because marriage is defined as 1 man and 1 woman united in holy matrimony.

You can be legally wed (man/woman) and the law wil call it a " civil marriage"-but by technicality it's simply a legal agreement-not a blessed spiritual commitment united by God.

I don't have a probem with same sex being allowed to be legally bound-but disapprove of the term "marriage" being used to refer to such binding...If they call it a Legal Union recognized by the state-fine by me-but I do not like the definition of the word marriage being redefined.

So bash me all you want-don't care-Didn't say I dont feel same sex can't be together and legally recognized-but I personally am against trying to re-define the word "marriage".as stated by the  bible-not man's laws.

Meh-your opinion-my opinion. My answer is to the OP-she asked a question-I gave an answer. Things are often redefined because people are not satisfied by the original definition. Why does the word marriage need to be redefined? Why can't there be a new term created-Websters is always adding new invented words (ie:ginormous)..So why can't there be a new word to define a legal gay union?

Once again-the OP  based her question on ones opinion-Im giving mine on the topic.Strictly mine.

I don't think porn is right which is why I told my husband I did not want to watch it. And yes, I did pray about it. I did not feel it was right (but I do not judge others for it) so I prayed about it for a while and like I said, I don't have that longing to be with a women sexually anymore. God really is great; he can do amazing things!
And once again I stated earlier.. .noone but God knows if he finds it wrong. That is, if you believe in God...

So you're not even interested in explaining your POV, perhaps shed some understanding on you way of thinking?

Really? Not one person who is against gay marriage can verbalize why?

 Why bother?

It's futile.  People have their minds made up.

I have been quite outspoken about my opinions.  Do you not know Poodles yet?  ;)

My beliefs don't prevent them from getting married. If they choose to get married that is their decision. I'm not going to stop them. It is not my job to judge them nor get them to go with my beliefs. I don't agree with their lifestyle but I am not going to stop them from getting married. That is between them and God

Quoting Tara922c:

If you are against it for religious reasons, I can respect that. I am happy that I live in a country that has freedom of religion. My problem is; why should your religious beliefs prevent two people from getting married?

Quoting 3nhvn1onearth:

I am against it but I am fair from a bigot. I don't hate people. I disagree with that lifestyle for religious reasons. I hold no prejudice against anyone whatsoever

Quoting SuperChicken:

Honestly, I don't care what excuse someone spouts.  There is only one true reason to deny someone else the same rights one wants for themselves - in this case the right to marry the person they love.  And that reason is they are a hate filled bigot.

Not to ruin your thread, or anything.  Of course, the hate filled bigots are free to spout their lying excuses and pretend that people other than their hate filled bigot friends believe them.

I believe in God. I am bisexuel. I never felt the need to pray it away. I knew at an early age I was different. It's a small part of who I am internally. My vay vay doesn't rule my life. My heart and mind rules. It is unfortunate the guilt people place on sexuality has rolled over to teenagers committing suicide. It's a damn shame.

Here is a verse that actually says that homosexuality is not welcomed in the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, not idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
