if older women call you a girl? Is it ok as a term of endearment?  Do people do it to be malicious and try to tear down credibility?

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver

i've never had an older woman call me girl.

What annoys me is when younger people call me ma'am. Grrr...I don't like acknowledging that I'm old enough to be a ma'am.

Doesn't bother me. Whether some are trying to use it as an insult or not, doesn't bother me.

I'm not easily offended by much of anything.

Don't know that I've been called that, other than to have someone say, "Hey girls, check this out" instead of "hey, ladies, check this out".

That doesn't bother me.  I'm 50 and I use girl and "chica" a lot, in that way.  I think it's more a term of endearment than snarkiness.

I have never had an older woman call me a girl.

However, the only people I like to call me hon, are my mom and DH...

I'll be 46 in a few months and haven't been called a girl in a very long time.

I think it's less about the word itself and much more about the delivery of it, kwim? IE...not WHAT is said but HOW it's been said.

I'm 36 and I prefer NOT to be called girl.  I also try not to do it to those that are younger than me.  I have one friend who is 22 or 23 and she calls people "kid" and "youngin" and I have to laugh at her.  I think the only one I call "girl" is my DD and it's usually something like "Listen here little girl" when she's being a smart aleck - same with DS except he gets "little boy."
