If it weren't for the kids, would you and your SO be together?

Sounds like us... our deal is 'we're going to be the longest-married couple alive, as everyone else fails to make it to 12 years, and we make 70.'

Quoting Peanutx3:

We were high school sweethearts as well.  Yes we would still be together if we didn't have kids.  We were supposed to grow old together.

Yep...we are high school sweet hearts!

Yeah, he's my best friend, I cannot imagine being with someone else, ever.

We do most things together, though we each have a hobby we do on our own (or with others).

Just today, we were talking about how we don't really do stuff with other couples or people. It's because we don't need anyone else, since we like to be together. He's my favorite person in the world and he says I'm his.

That's hard.

It's hard not to touch it... like a sore tooth.

Quoting Peanutx3:

Sometimes I wonder if I need to just stay out of these kinds of posts.  I am kinda having a sad day today.

Quoting katzmeow726:

I always think of you when the.topic of high school sweet hearts comes up...hugs!

Excellent advice.

Quoting Peanutx3:

Life truly is unfair and not guaranteed.  Everyone please tell those you love just how much you love and care for them before they are gone.

Quoting JakeandEmmasMom:

I hate that life is so unfair.

Hugs, Peanut.

My grandparents recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Interesting. This reminds me of a lot of stories I've read about very happily married elderly couples.

Quoting SewingMamaLele:

Nope. Were very different people and its taken a lot of work to stay together and not kill each other. Now, were doing fantastic... But we wouldnt have made it through the first couple of years if we werent dedicated to providing a solid family for our son. He was conceived just 5-6 months into dating.

so many people are getting married for the first time in their 30s... it requires living past 100 (and not getting divorced)

We only have to live to 89 and 91 --and since we still have living people in our grandparents' generation, it seems more than possible...

Absolutely!  We are at the point now where we can't wait to get them married off so we can have our lives back!  lol

We are looking fwd to the empty nest---raising teenagers is no picnic.

My hubby and I are lifers.

(We were together 11 years before kids entered the picture.)
