I'm not voting in this poll, but I will say, marriage does not have to be holy matrimony in a house of worship.  I got married in borough hall in Staten Island, a full legal marriage, I have the paper to prove it, but there wasn't a holy man or a holy book in sight.

I changed the poll to include the option of being in favor it. I'm really trying to get some feedback from those who are against gay marriage.

I think the end goal is as unique as all those that oppose gay marriage. One size does not fit all.

The initial place of wanting it banned is fear of the unknown and fear of change.

This is an interesting question and one I hope some CM Christians answer.  I understand why some Christians feel gay marriage is forbidden from a religious POV, but not the objection to marriages performed outside of a church, so an explanation would be welcome.  My marriage was also a civil, not religious, ceremony, and I'm allowed to refer to myself as married and get the benefits.

I'll bump it too. I've often wondered what the end goal is or if they have even considered the consequences beyond the banning itself.
I wonder if they assume that their own marriage (and all of their heterosexual friends) will suddenly become deep and godly bonds from the lackluster relationship it has always been.
The cause of all of the present problems in straight marriage can be traced to the idea of gay marriage. I mean, it's obvious, isn't it?! There was no divorce or marital strife in the entire world until the gays started getting all uppity.
