How can I help her understand that she is going to bankrupt herself?
My mother has been retired for just a few short years and she is rocketing through her retirement nest egg. My mom had a very successful career and made excellent investments. She also has a 401k, and IRA and a pension that pays her half of her salary and all of her benefits.
With her investments she can comfortably live on 40k a year. Her homes are paid for. She is spending so much more than that. At least 30% of her assets are tied up in stock.
If she continues at this rate she will be broke in 15 years, perhaps sooner. She's stubborn. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm at a loss for what to do to help my mother see the big picture.
