What Do You Think Should be Done to All the Foreclosed/Vacant Homes?
I just got back from my walk with my dogs. My walk goes ALL around this HUGE track of homes, that are across my Street. It also goes around a HUGE park/school/playground. As I was walking I saw many houses boarded up & empty. Some, weren't even finished & had broken windows. It's sad to see this, but it's the sign of the times. My questions is this: What do you think should be done about this? Since, there's alot of homeless ppl & ppl that don't even live in a home. Children don't even get the opportunity to play in their own yards, have a home to call their own.
I thought since it was the Banks that allowed these loans that they KNEW ppl couldn't even afford when they did have jobs. They should be held accountable, plus I do also feel it's the homeowners responsibility when they knew they couldn't even afford them in the first place. The houses I see during my walks, are homes that I couldn't even afford. Even, when we had a HUGE down payment to put on our home that was ONLY $117,000. These homes were around $325,00 & UP. I remember telling my husband when they built them (around 7 yrs. ago), how in the world are ppl going to afford these? There were signs all over the place, stating 'no down payment'.
When we bought our home, 16 yrs. ago, (3rd home) we had a HUGE down. (was when a 20% down was required, I believe that's what it was)...My husband made good money, I wasn't working. Yet, it wasn't even that easy to get that loan?? Anyway, I think the Gov. should be forcing the banks that now own those homes, to rent them out (rent-to-own) & rent them out at a reduce cost. Then, allowing ppl to buy them at a reduce cost. It just bugs me to see ALL these home vacant like this. Just sitting around, where families can be living in them & kids can have a home.
