My favorite thing about my dad was his dry sense of humor.... And the devilish grin that accompanied it!

Daddy has had a nickname for me since my teens.  He calls me Elmo.   At the time he started it, I had bright red hair, a childlike voice, and super hyper.

The year the tickle me Elmos came out, he saw one at a Walmart that summer and decided then and there to buy it for me for Christmas.   No knew at the time how popular that was and when people found out he had one a few weeks before Christmas, he got multiple offers of 100's of dollars to buy it from him so they could give it to their little kid for Christmas.   He refused.   That Elmo was for his Elmo and nothing could change that.

I still have it and now my son plays with it and I tell him that Granpa Joe got that for Mommy for Christmas a long time ago.   My son responds "Granpa Joe is Santa!"

My Dad passed away suddenly 12 years ago and I still miss him everyday. My favorite thing about my Dad was his wanting to be with us all the time.  He was a military guy until I was 7 (he was in the army at age 18 and didn't have me until he was 32) and looked kind of gruff. But, he was a teddy bear.  He loved to take us out all the time. I could pick a winning horse at the track at age 8. When I had trouble with addition in first grade, he taught me blackjack. He was unconventional but I always remember him being there and having a blast.

Sorry. I thought maybe I should somehow rephrase, or make it about any role model whom someone admired....

It is.  He is my daddy always.  I am blessed to have such a loving dad.  And now my son has the same thing with his.   It's truly amazing seeing the bond those two have.
