My favorite thing about my dad was his dry sense of humor.... And the devilish grin that accompanied it!

and a few years ago, he got me the new Tickle Me Elmo for Christmas.   It's cool, but nothing like that one from I think it was 1996.

It was about 25 years ago, but my dad got me a Santa bear, from Hudson's. He decided to hide it and write a series of riddles for me to solve in order to find it.... I was so frustrated! I loved the bear, but it took me forever to find him! Lol. I will NEVER do that to my kids, and yet, it was a good memory.

My dad passed away when I was 17. He wasn't biologically my dad, but he raised me since birth. He was my dad in every sense of the word, and I miss him so much. My dad had an odd sense of humor I will never forget. He was a very thin man, but had a very large pregnant looking belly. He used to joke all the time that he was "9 months pregnant for the past 10 years".lol he would even have you put your hand on his belly and make his belly jump so you could feel the "baby" kick.lol

The father's day before I found out he wasn't my bio dad (I was 12) I bought him a clock that had a father and child fishing together and it said "anyone can be a father, but it takes a special person to be a dad"... He cried when he opened it, but I didn't understand why until a year and a half later. He kept that clock displayed on the top of his entertainment center until he died... Even though it had been knocked down a couple of times and the glass broken, he still loved it, and was so proud of it.

Sorry for your loss. I'm glad you had such a great dad.

The summer going in to the 4th grade.  My dad was sober that entire summer.  We had so much fun and life seemed 'normal.  We lived in AZ, swam, fished and camped along the Colorado river.  I learned how to ride a bike (finally) and just remember being a kid with a pretty cool dad.

That's all I got.  When I was 11 my parent divorced and I never saw my dad again.

My dad had a significant drinking problem too. I guess it makes the good memories all the better. Sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you got that summer!

That's a nice memory. My name is Tanya and my dads name is Joe, too.

My dad was a truck driver(still is) when i was growing up so we weren't very close. I think the best thing he did was push me in life.. he always made sure I did my best. I've always wanted a close relationship.. but i don't think that is in the cards for us.

Daddy has had a nickname for me since my teens.  He calls me Elmo.   At the time he started it, I had bright red hair, a childlike voice, and super hyper.

The year the tickle me Elmos came out, he saw one at a Walmart that summer and decided then and there to buy it for me for Christmas.   No knew at the time how popular that was and when people found out he had one a few weeks before Christmas, he got multiple offers of 100's of dollars to buy it from him so they could give it to their little kid for Christmas.   He refused.   That Elmo was for his Elmo and nothing could change that.

I still have it and now my son plays with it and I tell him that Granpa Joe got that for Mommy for Christmas a long time ago.   My son responds "Granpa Joe is Santa!"

That is awesome!

It does make the good shine a little brighter.  Seems they were few and far between.   :) Thank you.

My favorite memory from my childhood with my dad was hanging out at the fire house with him and the other guys when he was at work. When your parents have that kind of profession its like having a lot of extra extended family. The guys he worked with were his "brothers" and in turn cared about us just like real uncles would. I liked riding in the fired trucks. Another favorite thing about my dad then and now is that no matter how busy he is his family comes first. He always has time for his family no matter what

I have lots of great memories and hopefully many more years to make new ones. I have 3 other sisters but I was always a daddy's girl. I was a major Tom boy and loved sports and being outside. I guess I was the boy my dad never had. Lol.

I can't pin point one particular memory so I'll just brag a little. Every year on our birthday, my dad would take us out on a date. We picked the Restraunt and what we wanted to do afterwards. I also played 3 sports year round from jr high through college. My dad went to every single home event with a camcorder in hand. I used to work for my dad growing up, he would take me out to lunch and I would include that lunch hour in my wages.

To me, he was and continues to be the best dad ever:-)))
