study on the news today says that 1-8 drinks a week is good for you, even while PREGNANT!

would you trust this study enough to attempt drinking, knowing what "could" happen from it- if the study is wrong?

My Dr said one glass of red wine per week is perfectly fine. He even said he decreases my cgances for heart issues. I didn't really do it though. Maybe 3 times my whole pregnancy. All on special occasions and just one cup.

LOL sorry I have to laugh about people talking about the first weeks or month of a pregnancy and not drinking.  First I bet alcohol is a big part in why many of us ended up pregnant to begin with and second how many of you knew you were pregnant in that first month?  I venture to guess not many if any of you.  So really there goes that theory if you are a low to moderate drinker (moderate being one or two glasses of wine or beer at dinner) then drinking at the same rate in early pregnancy is not going to make a difference.

I don't care what the study says. Drinking while pregnant is stupid and selfish.

While you are mostly right, I know a lot of women who drink solely for the health of their babies, I myself being one of them. I had about 5 glasses of red wine during my whole pregnancy. I didn't do it because I craved alcohol, I did it because I read about the health benefits linked. And I have a perfectly healthy baby, there's nothing wrong with him, and he's developing faster than other children around me. You're entitled to your opinion but I don't think you should call women who do it for health reasons stupid and selfish. If you read my other post it entirely depends on what type of alcohol. A mixed drink I think, is unacceptable but black beer and red wine have been proven for years and years and through personal experience to be extremely beneficial. I agree a lot with you whole heartedly but you don't have to be so blunt to call mothers who do drink so stupid and selfish. It's not fair when you don't know all the facts yourself or personally know the mothers who do so. But like I said, entitled to your own opinion so take care.

No one NEEDS to drink while they are pregnant, just for added health benefits. Eating right and excercising are all a woman needs to have a healthy pregnancy.  Using health benefits as a reason to drink is just an excuse and a poor one at that. And yes, I am entitled to my opinion and I find it incredibly stupid and selfish.

No. I ahve seen the effects of FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) and would never risk it. IMO, if you canot withhold from drinking for 9 months you have a drinking problem

Yup! Drinking for health benefits? Really? Probably the worst excuse I've ever heard.

Good heavens, NO!  I even asked my doctor when I was first pregnant if I could have a wine cooler and he said "Absolutely NOT!"
