well, this is sweet...the government should kill the gays...
Can someone make it clicky?
Oh man, a religious leader wants to kill me again, I sure am shocked
Nope. Not a witch. My siggy is more about being a witch with the "b" instead of the w. :)
Quoting mikiemom:huh and here by your signature, I thought you were a witch. Are you a christian witch, I have a couple of friends who follow Santeria and a couple who still go to church but practice the craft.
Quoting cjsbmom:
I don't even think that is it. The Bible was written over 2,000 years ago. A lot of things have changed since then, and most of what is in there is just plain outdated. You have to be able to apply the teachings to a modern world, and for some of them, it's just not possible. *That* is the number 1 thing I struggle with personally as a Christian. I question a lot of stuff I read in the Bible and things I hear other Christians saying. I definitely am not one of those sheep who follows the rest of the flock. God gave me a mind and I use it to question anything I think is unreasonable.
Quoting ashellbell:
What I mean by "lost in translation" is more like "a bunch of dudes added shit in there to control the masses out of fear". I think the original bible was probably just some story of people trying to explain where we came from. I think the bible is the most horrifyingly violent book I've ever read.
Quoting Suzy_Sunshine:
I disagree. Translation is not the problem. The problem is that the bible includes a hearty helping of horrifying ideas. They are of their time and we have certainly evolved beyond them but that does not mean they aren't in there or don't count.
Quoting ashellbell:
I agree completely. It has been lost in translation.
Quoting BelindaDuvessa:
Obviously it's not arsenic, because then they wouldn't be alive to spew this filth.
On a more serious note, I teach my kids right from wrong, but not based on a book. I own a Bible and alot of good things can be found in it, but I also think that some things were "lost in translation".

lol I'm betting she is the first to defend this crazy shit.
Quoting ashellbell:
You get to be right! No one is ever right on the interwebz!
Quoting mikiemom:
This is sad and scary and my liberal tree hug-gin, nonviolence, make love not war self, has a gun and will use it when some bat-shit crazy christian knocks on my door trying to burn me at the stake for being a witch lol.
On a serious note this man should be removed from the pulpit. Oh and I'm betting that kitty chick is the first to defend him. What is the prize if I'm right lol.
Oh, I find that a tad offensive but what-ever lol - I'm a bitch and a witch. lol my exh and I have a joke that it's ok to call me a witch but still not ok to call me a bitch lol.

Quoting cjsbmom:I think it's that generation as a whole. Don't feel bad. My mom's favorite saying is "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." I always ask her how she knows that. Was she there during the Creation? Shuts her right up.
Anyone who knows me knows my stance on gay marriage and equal rights for gays. My DH doesn't always share my beliefs, but he respects them. And it's been a real eye opener for him now that one of his closest cousins has come out and gotten married. It's always easy to condemn total strangers. It's a lot harder when it's your own family.
Quoting ashellbell:
My father and your FIL could be bff's. My dad says he doesn't want to pay for those f*ggots health insurance when they get AIDS. He even stopped watching the big bang theory because one of them came out IRL. My dad is just a gem.
Quoting cjsbmom:I am going through this with my own FIL right now. One of DH's cousins is gay, and she just got married to her "wife" in a private ceremony and then told everyone else about it after the fact. FIL had a shit fit when MIL asked me if I thought we should send them a wedding gift and I told her yes. He went on and on about sending gifts to those who are commiting a sin, calling them an abomination to God, etc. I am pretty sure he's going to start WWIII in the family because he is determined that he's going to tell this family member and her wife that they are sinners (and not in a nice way, either). Just to piss him off, I made it clear that I favor gay marriage and that God instructs us to love one another. That is the first (and most important) command. He hasn't spoken to me since. We're going to visit in a few weeks, and I can hardly wait. *denote sarcasm here*
Quoting ashellbell:
It's just the extremists though. I say that having a strong dislike for most organized religion. It comes with the territory of interpreting a book they way the individual wants to read it. My problem is why did no one stand up and say "no". What is this congregation filled with?
Quoting cjsbmom:You know, I am becoming more and more disenchanted with my own religion. I expressed my feelings about that last week to one of our pastors. I see shit like this, and it embarasses me to even say I'm a Christian. *sigh*
Well, I am constantly being called a witch (meaning bitch), so I figured I'd might as well have the right ride. It's not meant as an offense to witches. A very good friend of mine is actually a practicing Wiccan.
Quoting mikiemom:Oh, I find that a tad offensive but what-ever lol - I'm a bitch and a witch. lol my exh and I have a joke that it's ok to call me a witch but still not ok to call me a bitch lol.
