Supreme Court ruling in.....law has been upheld
They just announced they've struck down the mandate that requires you to buy health insurance coverage, calling it unconstitutional. However, that is it. They did not strike down the entire law.

EDIT: OK, clearly CNN screwed up their coverage. I'm reading at three other news outlets that the law stands. So there you have it. The whole thing is intact.
Here is a story:
Supreme Court upholds key part of Obama health law

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court has upheld the individual insurance requirement at the heart of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.
The court on Thursday handed Obama a campaign-season victory in rejecting arguments that Congress went too far in requiring most Americans to have health insurance or pay a penalty.

I'm not sure I'm very happy about the mandate at all.

This is complete and utter crap! They are forcing employers to purchase ins. for their employees and if they don't - huge penalty fee. Then the single moms or married moms or ANYONE for that matter, who can't afford health ins even NOW - they won't be able to afford it still. Then they'll have a tax for not having it! Oh my goodness. Since when was the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ever invited to tell us what we have to do to take care of ourselves. This is becoming a big issue. As we let the government in...they will keep pushing. Soon it's going to be a TYRANNY!
I don't support the law one bit...but tooptimistic jsut so you know it says health insurance companies have to accept you with preexisting conditions so dont stress too much over that part and to grandmab that depends on what part of the country your in i guess because around here EVERYONE takes medicaid

Under the law if you loose your job you qualify for Medicaid. Don't panic people. Read the whole thing.

Wow.. hope my dh never loses his job.. we will NEVER be able to afford health care now with the dd's birthdefect. There is NOTHING in place for how much health insurance companies can charge.
More taxes less service.
And do you know how few doctors take medicaid? That's why most medicaid patients end up at ERs. Great!

What's funny is that we are one of the most industrialized countries that DOES NOT HAVE universal healthcare. The "happiest" countries are ones that do pay for universal health care because THEY ARE HEALTHY!!!!!!!
Happy like Greece?

I don't know why everyone is freaking out.
The tax if you DON'T buy insurance... is 1% of your income. 1%. If you make $30,000, you'd have to pay a fee of $300. Most people get refunds back, so they'd lose $300 of their refund...unless I am missing something else here?
It is the principal!! Why should I pay a 1% tax for something I can not afford? It does not make sense. I have insurance and so do my children, so no it would not directly effect me with the tax. But it is going to effect me when my preimeums go up to a point that it is unaffordable..
What about the two million elderly people who will be cut off from Medicare? Do you think they'll be able to afford 1% in 2014, 2% in 2015 and 2.5% in 2016?

$300 is a lot to some people...and it's forcing them to spend $300 on something they don't want or can't afford.
Yes they have to cover it, that is true, but it doesn't say at what price.
My daughters feeding supplies alone cost over 1000 a month.. What do you think the insurance premium would be? The same as everyone else's? There is nothing at all that protects parents like myself from having to pay outrageous premiums.
I have two with pre existing conditions, and my stomach is is knots. I wonder how much more my autistic son will have to pay for his insurance as an adult compared to my "normal" "healthy" child.

It stands!!! I'm almost in tears thinking of the children that will not have to worry about pre existing conditions

Quoting bc19:So my DH and I will have to find the money for either a freaking tax or health insurance and put us back to the days where we had to struggle for everything even after four years of busting our ass so we wouldnt have to struggle? Awesome ...
A roof over your head or insurance? Food on the table or insurance?
I think that is amazingly awesome too. (sarcasm)
