Do you tip when you take out?
It's 104 here today and I decided to order some wings from Applebees. They have carside to go where they just bring it out to your car. Usually I tip a few bucks, but tonight I didn't because the wings were messed up and not made how I ordered so I had to sit for another 10 minutes to have them remade.
Anyway, I was wondering, is it customary to tip for take out? Do you? Would you still tip if your order was wrong and you had to wait to have it remade?

I think it also really matters is the drive up service is given just like a table on the floor. Most places section off the seating floor so each server has a certain number of tables. If the curbside is a "table then tipping is very important to that server.

I used to tip for Applebee's carside but then my husband told me not to. I still give a buck or two for bringing the food out to me but it's not as much as we tip when we actually eat at the restaurant.
But the waitress is actually working harder for the takeout order if she is the one boxing all the food.
How is she working harder than spending 30 minutes running back and forth filling drinks, taking orders, etc for a table?
That all depends on the place and how their floor is structured I guess. However on most floors there is an expo line where plates are put together. When the order is takeout I think the waitress takes her plates from expo and boxes those dinners then delivers them. it is at least fairly equal work.
I still don't see how it's equal. Boxing food takes 2 minutes. Waiting on someone at a table can take up to an hour of your time.
The fact remains that the waitress is making a very small paycheck and she is working for you. If you think 3 bucks an hour is fair wage by all means dont tip. I really wouldnt consider having someone serve me without making a fair wage.
I don't consider running my food out to be serving me or at least not serving me to a point I should tip at 20%. I don't automatically tip anyway. It depends on the service.

We have a restaraunt here called swensons that is a drive in. Those servers take the order, bring the food wrapped in paper and throw away the trash. I tip them 20 % too. I also tip the drivethru attendent my change and they make min wage.
I think when you have survived on tips it comes very naturally to pass it forward.

Like if no one serves and I am just picking up? No

I do tip delivery drivers: Definitely more so since I don't believe their wages cover the increased prices in gas and the fact that they put mileage on their own cars for my benefit in most cases.
