US citizens leaving the country!

I keep reading or hearing in the news about ppl saying they would move to Canada or another country if Obama wins. And now because of the health care. So, how can they do this legally? Forget the famous ppl because they have enough money, im sure it would be easier. I mean the regular people, like you and me! With a regular job and maybe a degree or just a college but not the BA!

Where is the lovely lady with the siggy on this topic?

Do you mean me?

I commented. It's not as easy to immigrate to Canada as everyone thinks. I've looked into it, because DH would love to move back to his home country at some point. Being married to a Canadian, it's not as hard for me. But if you don't have family ties there, the process is just as tedious as it is to immigrate to the US. I don't know why people think all they have to do is hop in their car and drive over the border.

Exactly! And thats why I wonder, why they keeo saying things like this, thqt they will move to Canada ir Costq Rica! I doubt it is as easy as they seem to think.
Madonna has the money and i think she moved to London before she married Guy Ritchie. But she has the money, she is a famous singer. Im sure any country would open the doors for her. I wonder if the same luck would Limbaugh have?

But regular people, we need degrees and a trade they need in the new country. I know my cousin moved to Vancouver BC 20 years ago, but his job sent him there.

Yep, I was a US government Contractor in Germany for 5 years.

First 90K of your salary is Tax Free as a US contractor Overseas.

My husband is a government contractor, home based state side buy works overseas. He has been offered many jobs overseas, even before he retired. Now with me that may be tricky. I have my LPC and working on my LMFT, but even still...I am sure I can find something.

What is LPC and LMFT - does he work for the US military if so and if those are medical acronyms the military bases overseas are always looking for Qualified certified folks to work there, If they are financial related, they are always looking folks like that too. Also IT folks as well.

I think it's just something people say when they are frustrated.

Eh... The extreme left threatened the same when Bush was reelected, now the extreme right is doing the same.

If they are truly serious, there are plenty of ex-pat opportunities. They require time, committment, money, and hard work. Most people that complain and threaten to move elsewhere, are really just complainers and I seriously doubt they would put in the hard work required to be ex-pats.

Licensed Professional Counselor - LPC
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist - LMFT

Yes my husband does the same thing he did while he was active duty, though he just gets paid more and he's gone more. We lived overseas most of his career so we don't care to go that route. Plus we have a pretty good gig here so need for us...I was just pointing out an option for the benefit of the OP posting.
