Brad Pitt's mother writes anti-gay letter to Missouri News-Leader: Says Obama 'supports same-sex marriage' and ' killing of unborn babies'

Brad is a staunch and vocal gay-rights advocate. Mama Pitt hits back saying: 'Any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon.'

Actor Brad Pitt and his mother Jane Pitt couldn't disagree more about politics! The News-Leader initially denied the letter was written by the Oscar-nominated star's mother, but later amended an editor's note to confirm it was.

Outspoken gay rights advocate Brad Pitt might have found his biggest opponent yet - his mom.

The Hollywood superstar's mother recently penned a letter to her local newspaper touting her support for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and her disdain for abortion and same-sex marriage.

Jane Pitt's views, which appeared in Springfield, Missouri's News-Leader Tuesday, could not be further removed from those of her liberal son.

The actor has been a vocal gay rights advocate who famously said he would not marry fiancée Angelina Jolie until it was an option for all people, regardless of their sexuality.

Jane Pitt's missive was written in response to another letter published in the newspaper which expressed support for Christians who do not to vote for Romney because of his Mormon beliefs.

Mama Pitt hit back saying: "any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon."

The News-Leader initially denied the letter was written by the Oscar-nominated star's mother, but later amended an editor's note to confirm it was.

"Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney's opponent, Barack Hussein Obama," Jane Pitt continues in her letter, identifying herself as a a Christian who differs with the Mormon religion.

Obama is "a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage," she says before reminding readers that voting is a "sacred privilege and a serious responsibility."

Athiests don't believe in God, so for an athiest, there's no "God's rules" to like or dislike.

Quoting startupscafe:

Well, atheists don't like God's rules and neither do you apparently.

Quoting AdrianneHill:

You caught us. Yep, an inability to follow rules or even recognize they exist is what is buried deep in every atheist. That is why almost every criminal in jail is an atheist at this point. The preachers never get anyone to go to their sermons because inmates hate god and all picture rules he represents.

Seriously, if that were true, why does almost every convict find Jesus in the squad car and hold him with a death grip all the way through their sentence? The vat majority of prisoners are Christians, and to hear them talk, rather conservative. They know there are rules, they don't care enough to hate them. Atheists recognize rules and usually follow them or work to get them changed legally.

It is ignorant and self serving to believe that morality comes from religion and all atheists lack morality because they don't believe in violent, bronze age fairy tales to frighten then onto a decent path of behavior. That was you that needed that fear to make you "good" not me.

Quoting startupscafe:

Actually, her son made that choice on his own.  There are many people who raise their kids right, but then the kids turn out to be atheist.  Likely because they didn't like someone telling them that there are rules.

Quoting sweet-a-kins:

so you're pro-amputation? or do you think that amputation should never be allowed?

Quoting startupscafe:

That comment was not for you.  If you are FOR abortion, you are PRO abortion!  Same  difference.

btw, You keep proving your hypocrisy, Punky.

This is what I said:

Quote:

If you choose to be pro-abortion, that is your "legal" right to kill your baby if you want to.  You won't be judged in this country for murder.  However, I also have the right to try to persuade you to keep your baby.  Equal rights, right?  Isn't that what you want?  No one is forcing you to NOT have a choice to kill your baby in the womb.  It is legal...still!  The legal right to do so hasn't changed.
Quoting punky3175:

And you show your strong close minded bias with phrases like 'pro-abortion' and 'murdering a baby in the womb'. I'm 'pro-choice' not pro-abortion. That means I believe every woman should have the choice to not get pregnant or get pregnant of she so chooses. If for some reason she ends up pregnant, I believe she should have the choice to carry the baby to term, puttin it up for adoption or if none of those are acceptable/doable for her, she should have the choice to abort without people like you sitting in judgment.
Quoting startupscafe:

Actually, you have every right to say whatever you want.  But so do I.  But you don't like the things I say and they are offensive to you.  I would rather they weren't offensive to you.  However, you choose to believe what you believe.  That IS your right!

If you want me to keep my views in the closet, you are saying that I have no right to my views but you have every right to your views.  That is hypocrisy.  And that is what the photo is basically saying.

Quoting Raintree:

That went flying clean over your head, didn't it?

Your religious scruples need to be kept in your religious life- not forced on the lives of other people. Got it? Good.

Now, why do all of you use that photo below in order to mock people? Who is that young lady? What is her name? Why is she there? What is her life experience? I've seen several memes of her- and all jackass comments. It's really impressing me to go and look into the (ahem) tolerant Christian/conservative message.

She didn't say she was "for" abortion, therefore she is not "pro abortion".

What she said was, she is pro-choice - that a woman should (and does) have the legal right to have a safe medical abortion, if she wants it for whatever reason.

And if somebody's running around snatching up rosy-cheeked infants from their cribs and killing them, you should really call the police.

Most non-Christians (Catholcis ARE Christian so dont fall into this category) don't like your religion's rules.

So how many atheists have you sat down and talked to about why they are atheist? How about agnostics? Pagans? Hindus? Buddhist? Muslim? Jews?

you know, the way we picket ob/gyn offices and harrass visibly pregnant women going in, shouting at them about how they should abort their babies. and just look at all the legislation we've passed requiring women to abort.

Quoting Veni.Vidi.Vici.:

Quoting Raintree:

There is a major disconnect happening here.

Okay- she is PERFECTLY WITHIN HER RIGHT to voice her opinion. WE are PERFECTLY WITHIN OURS to voice our opinion on her opinion. This is how America works! You know how you insinuated that 'raising a child right' wouldn't include the child being an atheist? Or how atheists don't like 'rules'? Yeah, that's your silly opinion, and it IS fraught with A: ignorance, and B: self-inflated ego. And it's a jerk thing to say or think. That's my opinion on what you said earlier on. I can have that opinion and you can have yours- see how that works?

Now, when people begin to vote in a way consistent with their religious choices, but that will impede the rights of others- THEY ARE NOT WITHIN THEIR RIGHT TO DO SO. Feel free to legislate away in your own life and in your own church- when your religious opinions begin to press into the civil arena- you're impeding the rights of others. When madam Pitt wants to vote in a president who has expressed interest in limiting freedom for people- she is acting in a way that poos on that whole free-will/liberty/freedom/personal freedom thing that we hear so much about- whereas for Christians who wish to NOT impede on the rights of others and wish to KEEP their own religion to themselves, in their own families and churches- hooray! They are within their rights (and everyone elses) to do so. They are honoring the doctrine of liberty better than Mrs. Pitt.

I don't know about the rest of you but I will be joining raintree on her bench for the rest of the discussion. I might even suck up to her a little.

I don't know what you mean by you don't get what I am saying.  Everyday in these post, I read comments about how people hate people who are rich and have more than they have and how they should be sharing their money with others.  And you don't get the whole idolize celebrity bit either...okay then. As far as embarrassing poor Brad with her own opinions, who cares.  As I stated, every has a right to their own opinions and feeling on certain matters and it shouldn't matter if they are different than other people in their family.  I read a couple of papers each day and in each of them, they have the opinion section and I 'm fairly sure that everyone of those letters come from someones' Mom, Dad, Sister or brother. I don't understand why you feel that because she happen to borne a child who became famous that she should keep her mouth shut on subjects that are apparently close to her heart.  Now, that doesn't make sense to me.  Would any question her if she wrote a letter reflecting the same opinions of Brad? No, people would be cheering her on.

Quoting lga1965:

Quoting zandhmom2:

Why does it matter that it is Brad Pitts Mom? Because her son is an actor, she no longer has a right to express her own opinions? She wrote a letter to her town paper, she didn't write a letter and ask every news station to run it. Just because Brad is a top earning Hollywood actor (over paid actually)doesn't make him any higher in the ladder rung than his mother or any other person on this earth.  He may be more famous than me and make more money than me but he still puts his pants on one leg at a time just like me.  I'm sick of people thinking that stupid Hollywood people are actually better than the rest of us. It makes no sense to me how people in this country hate rich people yet idolizes Hollywood celebrities.

Hate rich people?  LOL. Idolize Hollywood celebrities? Haha. I don't get what you are saying.

Personally, if my kids had opposite opinions on politics and religion, I wouldn't be writing a letter to our local nespaper and we are just average people. In case only a few people read it, that would be embarassing for my kids to have to read MY views. I think politics and religion should not be discussed in close relationships and families. Writing to my paper and displaying my opinions would be rude.

Brad Pitt's mom would,of course, get lots of publicity-her views are being talked about all over the place. I think she should have had better taste and more consideration for her son, especially since she is pretty radically right.I mean...she says Obama supports killing unborn babies! Yikes! That is pretty far out!.
