This is MY Ar-15. It is NOT an assault rifle! I am SO tired of the ignorance that is rampant. An assault rifle MUST be able to fire full auto and those are NOT sold to civilians without severe restrictions. You can rent one for fire at a range that has them but you CANNOT buy one without a HUGE, EXPENSIVE, SLOOOOOW process. You CANNOT buy one on the internet, in fact most dealers are not even licensed to sell full auto or short barreled NFA items anyway. If you can afford it and you want to jump through the hoops you are open to visits at any given time from the ATF and must pay special taxes and you can NEVER sell it because it is registered with the ATF to you only. PLEASE before you judge and rant educate yourself on what you are talking about. And PLEASE ask questions if you don't understand something. As a dealer and instructor I gladly accept phone calls with questions from folks who want info and don't know where to get it. Pro gun folks are friendly usually and we don't bite(or shoot), I promise. This whole gun control issue would be SO much easier to talk about if not for the media and their need to demonize guns and keep peope ignorant.
Quoting TruthSeeker.:Quoting survivorinohio:What I get from this is that ar 15s are fun.
I think the only need for a gun like that is hunting humans that are hunting you back.
Or zombies. Don't forget the zombies!!
Ok you got me, I readily admit I would want one of those babies in the zombie apocalypse:)
How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong. Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these. GeorgeWashingtonCarver

OP? Expectin' trouble or something? Holy crap balls...tis a big gun yous toting there, lady! ;)
What if the guy showed up with an M1 Garand? The same type of rifle used to storm and assault Normandy Beach?
Would it still be called an assault rifle?
I can "assault" you with nothing but my hands. The Aurora shooter could have "assaulted" people with any number of the homemade bombs he created. Was it an "assault"? Sure. But he didn't use an "assault rifle."
I have no intention of shooting people unless for some reason my life were at stake. Are you aware that folks target shoot for sport? And you can hunt with it as well, though for the most part I don't. I am not afraid of anything really. I enjoy guns and shooting. I enjoy knowing I can hunt if I need to and protect myself if I need to. I live in Ok where the crime rate is very low. Funny thing how large gun ownership numbers equal less crime isn't it. Is there a reason you are so negative and nasty? Does it offend you that I exercise my constitutional right to keep and bear arms? If so why? And accidents do happen. About a zillion times more often with cars than guns but I bet you drive. And I bet you take medicine and vacinated your kids but those things can kill you too. More often than guns actually. Guns are VERY low on the list of things that kill people in this country every year. So other than fear do you have any reason why it isn't necessary?

Oh how adorable....a rifle or shot gun or some kind of gun with PINK in places to make it a feminine weapon for shooting people. Yikes.
I don't care what kind of weapon it is...is it so scary in your world that you feel you need one? Or are you just angry?
I sure don't need one. Where do you live? It must be scary, huh? Do you all fear bad guys coming into your neighborhood? (In the middle of a neighborhood ,filled with guys in mullets and rebel flags in the windows of their big macho noisy trucks?) Or what? How did you get so afraid?
- Gahhhhhhh.
Sorry---if you feel better and safer with that adorable weapon, that's fine. But is it REALLY that necessary? I see accidents happening--they always do.I hope you keep your ammo locked up.
Yes he used an AR style rifle. Did you know standard hunting rounds are larger and far more lethal. Or that the ar only fires as fast as you can pull the trigger? Or that you can get larger capacity magazines for A LOT of rifles not just ARs? Nearly ANY rifle modified right can do what he did. So can most handguns. Their rate of fire is very fast if you can pull the trigger fast. Target and compeption shooting is very popular as is hunting of all sorts. And each gun has a use. Handguns and rifles vary greatly in their purpose as far as self defense or sport. And to be honest I don't get the antigun mindset. WHY have the right to defend yourself and own firearms and not? This is not my go to home defense gun but I don't think I should have to justify my right to own it.
Quoting Mama2JoshKatie:
Is the gun in your picture the same type the shooter in Colorado had? If it's capable of doing what he did, how is that not an assault weapon? He shot 70 or so people in just a couple of minutes. Why does any law abiding private citizen need a weapon like that? Why do you own one? Target practice? Do you think you need it, rather than a simple hand gun, to protect your home and loved ones? If so why? I don't understand.
Found it. **NOTE** Don't watch if you are a lover of the purple singing dinosaur! lol

Truce. And when I get on the laptop I'll see if I can find my video of my husband killing Barney the Dinosaur with his 12 gauge. Lol
Quoting survivorinohio:LOL ok, truce? :)
There will always be a black market. I NEVER said that wasn't an issue. But that is an issue anywhere. And when did your dh get his? With the current ATF issues it is more difficult than ever. Average wait is nearly a year now. And some people pay less for cars than full autos. Your idea of expensive is probably different than most. The biggest issue with legal means of getting NFA items is by far the fact that the ATF knows exactly who you are and what you have after that. Those who buy them legally KNOW they will get caught if they screw up because they are the only person legally able to handle the gun.
Quoting TruthSeeker.:
Actually there are around 250k automatic weapons in civilian hands. You can buy a fully automatic m16. My husband has a short barrel and though they do take a little more time to get your stamp from the ATF it isn't that difficult or that expensive.
That's actually not true. The .223 is a small caliber. Not nearly as large as one would think when they hear the term assault rifle, which it is not. Give me a sec and I will post a comparison.
