Who are the Progressives and what is their platform?

This is sort of a spin off from another thread several days ago, but I'm just getting around to starting this post.

Maybe I'm the only one, but there seems to be differing ideas about who the Progressives are, and even more confusion as to what they stand for.

So...

Does anybody here consider themselves a Progressive?

Who are the Progressives?

Are the Progressives today an extension of the Progressive Party of the late 1800s?

What are their objectives?

Do you agree with the direction they are or want to take our country?

When "Communist" became a contemptuous term, it was intentionally changed to something more pleasant sounding - "Progressive" (in the 1920s).

So, when you hear Hillary and Barry speak to the “Progressives”, many people are unaware of what that actually means.

When, during the primaries, Hillary said that she likes to think of herself as a "Progressive like the 1920s Progressives", maybe she felt that she could say it out loud because of the basic ignorance of the citizens knowing what that actually means. Patriotic Democrats and/or Republicans who believe in our representative form of government are NOT "Progressives".

The Progressive plan for "social justice", unlike the communist revolutionary plan, was to make incremental changes, over years, in the system to avoid panic. (where the communist agenda was to get organized and jump right into a 'take over' revolution.. blow up govt buildings, etc. .. oh wait.. that's what Barry's friends Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers did.. and said they wished they'd done more!).

So.. basically, these days, people who take the time to do their research, are finding that they've taken socialism, marxism, communism, liberalism (the predecessor to "Progressivism") and the ideal for "social justice", thrown them all into the caldron called "Progressivism".

The cornerstone of control for the Progressive plan is the health industry. (heard anything about that lately?) Also, like you saw with the German socialists; the government gun control, take over of the banks, education, media, entertainment propaganda and the auto industries all became pieces to the puzzle working toward a quiet "fundamental change" of the country (gee, where have we heard that?). Don't forget that the leader who caused so much devistation was elected on the platform of "change". It took years of incremental social changes - getting everything into place - before things started getting really out of hand. .. the 'incremental' changes. .. the kind of changes that people didn't think much about because all else seemed normal.. and it didn't interfere with their personal lives at the moment. ... well, not until it was too late.

What would be the point in any actual Progressive responding to this post when it's obvious from the OP and even more so from other posters that this is nothing more than a way to bash progressives and show how evil "communist" they are??

Only an idiot would rise to the bait.

Maybe someone could expound on the difference between a Liberal and a Progressive? I've heard from many that they are interchangable and I've heard from many that they are not the same thing at all.

Exactly. Anyone who responds will be told their definition is incorrect and deemed a welfare receiving, big govt wanting, ignorant liberal who is hell bent on making our country a new China. Not true... But it will be spun as such.

Perhaps, going to the source would be a good idea:

Where We Stand on Domestic Issues

"CAP’s policy priorities for U.S. domestic policymaking center on building opportunities for all Americans to share in the American Dream. Our policy work concentrates on the core engines that drive equal opportunity and shared prosperity—education, health care, government oversight, poverty, women's rights. Our progressive domestic priorities underscore our commitment to government that works for the common good."

Taken from the Center for American Progress, which represents the various state Progressive parties around the country ( http://www.americanprogress.org/ )

It seems some people have a certain idea what a "Progressive" (capital P) means.  It's some convoluted theory mishmashed together to scare people.  There is another definition of progressive that ACTUAL progressives use:

pro·gres·sive  (pr-grsv)

adj.
1. Moving forward; advancing.
2. Proceeding in steps; continuing steadily by increments: progressive change.
3. Promoting or favoring progress toward better conditions or new policies, ideas, or methods: a progressive politician; progressive business leadership.
4. Progressive Of or relating to a Progressive Party: the Progressive platform of 1924.
5. Of or relating to progressive education: a progressive school.
6. Increasing in rate as the taxable amount increases: a progressive income tax.
7. Pathology Tending to become more severe or wider in scope: progressive paralysis.
8. Grammar Designating a verb form that expresses an action or condition in progress.
n.
1. A person who actively favors or strives for progress toward better conditions, as in society or government.
2. Progressive A member or supporter of a Progressive Party.
3. Grammar A progressive verb form.

The fact of the matter is that it is a nebulous term and is also very subjective.  So while you will see people insisting it's a secret communist plot, most people understand it's a description along the lines of "conservative" or "liberal" and can be applied to a variety of stances and ideas.  This whole "progressives are evil, kind of like the Nazis" is a bunch of utter bullshit written by some fool with a gradiose sense of self worth and very little understanding of history.  I forget the guy's name, suffice it to say I don't abide by his made up definitions and illogical reasonong.
