What parent would take a 1 yr old onto a motorcycle for a ride?

Having a 1 yo on a motorcycle isn't inherently dangerous. Based on what it says in the article it sounds like dad was engaging is unsafe riding practices. Riding up and down your driveway or in front of your home slowly isn't dangerous.

Sorry to hear about that. But I have to agree with the PP, it isn't in itself dangerous until you stuff doing stuff you shouldn't on it with a child.

Took DS on a sport motorcycle when he was about 3, DH in front, DS in middle, me on back to keep him on because DH had to lean over the gas tank (and while DH has long arms, they weren't quite long enough to control the bike and keep DS on). We went as slow as possible around the dirt road and came back.

A 1 year old on a bike isn't dangerous in itself but this man sounds like he wasn't driving safely at all...

My cousin's son dirt bike races and he is 3...

I think having a child unrestrained on or in a moving vehicle is incredibly dangerous. Especially so on a motorcycle, whether or not the driver is being cautious. It's just not safe. And the baby paid the price. Tragic and deeply saddening.

I would......if I had one of these belts, and I would put the 1 year old in front of me. This is a friend of ours.
