Bakery receives bump from RNC after turning down Biden visit
The owner of a bakery in southern Virginia turned down a photo opportunity with Vice President Biden earlier this week and is doing a booming business Thursday.
"This is an opportunity of a lifetime, but essentially I said, 'No offense to you or the campaign but I just decline you guys coming in here,' " McMurray told local Virginia TV station WDBJ-7.
"Very simply, 'you didn't build that,' " he said, explaining his reasons.
President Obama, speaking to a crowd in nearby Roanoke last month, said, in part, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that."
Republicans attacked the remark and Mitt Romney said it proved Obama is more interested in the "collective" than the individual, hardworking American. The Republican National Committee is already claiming McMurray for its team.
" 'LIKE' and SHARE if you stand with small business owners [sic] and know THEY built their business, not the government!" the RNC posted on Facebook Thursday with a link to the story about McMurray.
"It's a decision I made in the moment based on conviction and principle," McMurray said. "I have a difference of opinion than the folks in that campaign and that's just what it was. Also, taking a stance in my faith, faith in God. Anyway, the response has been wonderful. We've been really well-supported, lots of kind calls."
The bakery has only been open three months, according to WDBJ-7. The bakery's website offers "custom, made-to-order cookies. delivered."
McMurray told the station they've received many long-distance orders, mostly for cookies to be sent to charity centers.
The bakery ran out of everything but ice cream on Thursday afternoon.
The station, calling McMurray "Chris the Baker" - a reference to "Joe the Plumber" of the 2008 campaign - asked how McMurray liked being compared to Joe Wuerzelbacher, who confronted then-candidate Obama in 2008 and this year is running for a congressional seat in Ohio.
"I'm humbled by that comparison. I'm just a regular guy," he said.
Biden visited the River City Grill in Radford on Wednesday instead, interacting with patrons and taking pictures there.
"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." (Einstein)
That's the site to which I was referring. There's no reference to any close or reliable source to make that ridiculous story believable.
Quoting DSamuels:
Well, the Washington Examiner picked up the story from the local news.
Quoting JonJon:
Eh, the story would be more plausible if the author of the article cited by Carpy had referenced a "source close to the Vice-President" or if he'd said the bakery owner told him that's what happened.
Quoting DSamuels:
Apparently. That's why they bought so many cupcakes. I guess they had to put them in their socks too. The bakery must have run out of boxes or whatever they put the cupcakes in for customers to take home.
I'm so glad Trippy and JonJon were there to witness this and set us straight. I feel ever so much better now, don't you?
Quoting Carpy:
There were hookers at the bakery?
Quoting JonJon:
It's even funnier that you believe it. How could anyone believe the Secret Service agents would leave their posts to buy cookies and cupcakes? Where did they hide their goodies, in their socks?
Seriously, after hooker-gate, does anyone really believe the secret secret agents would risk their jobs being that stupid?
*smh* Heh.
Quoting Carpy:
The Washington Examiner says it's so. hmm
Here is the original source.

I read in a couple different articles that after he said no, the secret service came back in to the bakery and thanked them for saying no. They also bought a couple dozen cupcakes to show their support.
Now that's funny!
The only thing funny about that is that you are gulable enough to believe it. Lol
The url didn't take me to the Washington Examiner.

Happy, what do you think--- are some people REALLY that dense to not see the logic in your statement, or are they refusing to accept reality? I for one am so sick of hearing the same old crap about "57 states", and teleprompter jokes, and now they have twisted a perfectly logical concept every which way but loose.
I guess when those silly Hollywood types make their acceptance speeches they should just say, "Thanks, I DID work really hard and I deserve it!!! To hell with my parents, my husband/wife, my old drama coach, my first director! I did it ALL on my own!!!
Quoting Happymamax2:He did mean it. He was also correct. No person is an island unto themselves! Not you. Not me. Nobody. That doesn't take away from how hard people work to start businesses and become successful, it just means that there are a lot of factors that go along with that! THAT IS OBVIOUS if one wants to be HONEST, instead of making some sort of warped point... it's common sense.
Folks keep the rhetoric up by trying to make it sound wrong. I suspect that it has everything to do with the messenger, NOT the message! Hate away, I don't care, I just wish this made up BS would stop.
Quoting Element5:Quoting Happymamax2:
You would think he could use a TelePrompTer a bit better... Oh wait he didn't ..
Believing he did not mean it ... Now that's dumb!
Quoting JonJon:You know she was teasing. The President stopped in a local bakery and ate a pumpkin old fashioned donut when he was here in 2010 (the bakery did a booming business the next day). I'm sure she didn't scold him. I'm sure she knows people get cravings for certain types of food.
You guys aren't really going to start a campaign about how insensitive the First Lady was to Gabby and go on and on about how the First Lady can't do what Gabby does, are you? Heh.
Quoting singlemom1208:
I missed that. Did she really?
Quoting 12hellokitty:
What was Biden doing in a bakery? Didn't Michelle just scold Olympic gold winner Gabby Douglas for eating an egg mcmuffin?
Who said anything about frequenting a place just because someone famous ate there? I said people like to go to places where famous people have been. You know, the old "George Washington slept here" thing. In the olden days people liked to walk or eat or sleep where their heroes ate, walked or slept. Hey, people still like to do that which is why people go to see Mt. Vernon, the White House, Independence Hall, Monticello, Jamestown, Carnegie Hall, the Apollo, The Old North Church, the Watergate Hotel, the Coliseum, the Pyramids, the Vatican, Jerusalem...you get the picture.
Today, people like to eat and sleep where famous people did and do because they believe famous people have good taste and high standards which means the food is good and the bed is good. Having someone famous, such as the Vice-President, eat in your bakery is an endorsement of the highest kind and even people who aren't of the same party will try your food to see if famous people actually, really know what "good" is.
Wear Hanes because Michael Jordon does. Wear Covergirl because Ellen Degeneres does. Buy LazyBoy because Brooke Shields does. Use Priceline because William Shatner does their commercials. Dye your hair because a lot of pretty actresses do. Eat greek yoghurt because it will make your husband look like John Stamos. Maybe some people believe it means they have good taste if they, too, like and have the things famous people like and have.
I actually went to Planet Hollywood because I wanted to be up close and personal with movie props that had been up close and personal to any one of my favorite action heroes: Stallone, Swarzenneger or Willis. Upon entry, we got to touch the jacket Scwarzenneger wore in Terminator. I got to sit at a table right under the cylinder of ice with a Sylvester Stallone mannequin in it that was featured in Demolition Man. I was delighted as I got to look up at his butt crack the whole time.
I did not frequent the place even though I would have liked to see more stuff because the food was overpriced and extremely disappointing. Planet Hollywood didn't stay in business for long. We do have standards and we will pay only so much for fish and chips and nothing for tasteless fish and chips, even in a place that was owned by popular movie stars.

I've always wondered about the whole "let's eat here because someone famous stopped in." Last I recall the president and any other human being bleeds red too, so I will not frequent an eatery just because of their presence at that establishment - that goes for even my favorite celebrity, musician, or political official. I'm my own person. So what is the fascination with going somewhere that someone famous has gone? Do tell. Does the food taste better after they went there? Just curious....and I'm being serious too.

Sorry, but it didn't hurt his business at all. In fact, he had to close early that day, because he ran out of cookies. And he has received orders from all over the country. He makes specialized and made to order cookies.

I most certainly wouldn't comprise my comfort or anything of the sort for an experience with a certain famous person.
I've hung out with famous people in their homes, and had the pleasure to meet some of my favorite famous people, but I don't find any interest in visiting a place they go to for chow or bedding down whoever.

Aren't you the same one who said the press could have never known...nevermind the press following the VPOTUS entourage....or the fact that this small town does have telephones....or the chance that there was an eyewitness to the event....I consider mine more a hypothesis....I have noticed xyz behaviors and therefore I hypothesize ABC....meanwhile you're just pulling random shit out of your ass and clinging to it.
Quoting Arroree:Once again, i didn't declare what his intentions were, YOU did that by insisting he would never have done that. All i did was say how the situation looked to me. So sorry for daring to have my own opinion and it not matching yours.
Quoting TheStepMonster:
Well, you were the one that declared what his intentions were. Are you the clairvoyant of the group? The problem I have with the attentions mongering thing is the notion that a man, stood up for his beliefs, and instead of pandering to the media for a photo op with someone who he doesn't agree with declined. I don't believe he ran to the press. If you do, that's fine. But tell me. Why would a man turn down the press that serving the VPOTUS would bring and then turn around and sell himself out?
Quoting Arroree:I love how I point out that this man could very well be attention mongering to help out his business and i get jumped on like i said something truly horrific and vile. I bet if this story was about a Dem who had done this to Ryan most jumping all over me would be nodding and agreeing about how he's just an attention monger.
Hilarious.
And just for the record, before anyone tries to say otherwise, yes i would say the exact same thing of a Dem in his situation.
I am sure he wouldn't mind if Democrats boycotted him. Now if conservatives started boycotting him, he would have a problem. Kind of like Chik Filet, lol Some people are slow learners.

I hear you! I can't decide if people are just dense, or if they just hate so blindly, that they won't let logic penetrate their skulls! I suspect it's the later. I think they are brainwashed! I'm not kidding, or trying to be a jerk, but I have to believe that if they knew some of the stuff that goes on in our government they would understand how corrupt THE WHOLE system is. Not how corrupt the democrats, and especially president Obama, are.
There was a lady yesterday seething with hate for the president. She was seething to the point where she said not only that he was the worst president in history, but that there was not one thing that he has done during his presidency that she could respect! Not one.
Most of the time I want to scream with frustration, then I get depressed and turn off cm and the news for a few days to get rid of the negative energy....
