How do you Think we are Going to get People of all Races........

To get along or can we?  I know many will disagree with this, but I feel it has been WORSE since Obama was elected.  Maybe, it is because of this bad recession for the past 4 yrs.  But, for me I have never seen it this bad.  Race against race.  Rich against poor, poor against rich.  I have lived during the Rodney King beatings & the riots in L.A.  I have lived during the trial that had O.J. not guilty for the murder of two people. (I lived/worked in those areas).  I understand that I may not of lived or seen a lot of what others may have experienced.

But, I still lived in a State that has a very diverse population.  I lived here all my life.  Yet, for me anyway I saw a lot of people getting along still.  I see people from ALL races friends, married, girlfriend/boyfriend.  That's a GOOD thing.  My best friends were Hispancis, my friends now are Hispanics & Blacks.  My sister's boyfriend is a black man.  My daughter's boyfriend of 5 yrs. is a Hispanic.  Yet, I'm beginning to see a lot of tension between races.  The gym I go to has had 2 fights recently.  One between an Hispanic & White man.  Another an Hispanic man & Black woman.  1 turned physical.  Right there in my gym.  :(

I don't usually like race posts.  But, this has been bothering me lately.  To see all these changes.  Is it because people are blaming other people for what is happening in our Country?  Are people just stressed because of their own finances & taking it out on other people of other races?  Do people feel injustices are going on in their own race?  What can WE do as a society to change this?  What I thought I could do for my part in all this, is to be kind, helpful & friendly to ALL people of race.  To be friendly & ask them if they'd like to go to lunch after working out at the gym.  I thought that may help.  Besides, I'm just that type of person.  I like everyone I guess.  Until, they show me they aren't a very friendly/nice person.  I don't see the color of their skin FIRST then stereotype them.  I see THEM for who they are inside.

When I or my husband & I take our dogs for walks.  I'm noticing something that is starting to make me sad.  We have to take a different direction in our walks because I feel we are being targeted because we are white.  PLEASE don't see this as a white/black thing ok.  It's just it's making me sad it has to be like this.  I'm sure others have their own stories as well, & I'd love to hear them.  We walk our dogs, minding our own business.  It gives us a chance to just talk about our day.  But, we are starting to have these black teens staring at us.  I tell my husband to just continue walking & not look their way.  I need to say, this COULD happen in ANY race ok.  But, I don't know what to do about it.  I hate the fact we have to change our direction of walking.  These teens are also now starting to talk bad towards us & making me scared.

I'm afraid to walk by myself now.  That's just crazy I have to feel afraid.  I usually am friendly to everyone.  But, for some I feel uncomfortable & look the other way.  Just minding my own business.  I'm thinking of just saying "Hi how are you today"...but, I'm afraid.  Do you think I should do that?  I REALLY want to make a difference in turning all this around.  I want people of ALL races to see that there really are people that are nice out there.  Even if they are not of your own race.  So, I thought this might be a start.  What do you think?  Also, could any give me their opinion on WHY this is happening?  When a person is just minding their own business, talking to (in my case) their own partner about their day, yet we get stares?  & rude comments?  What did WE do to have this happen?  Any ideas?

It hasn't gotten worse, it's come out of the closet since Obama was elected.

And it isn't his fault.

Maybe so idk.  I'm just speaking for myself maybe, but it has been A LOT worse.  Because, as my posts indicates I have NEVER had these things happen to me or in my present before.  I can only speak from my own experiences.  Although, I have also heard it from a few other people lately.  For me, it HAS been under Obama.  Because, I don't remember a time like what we're seeing now from any other President.  Obama's 2 books may of been before he was President, but by what he has said in his books about 'white' people, I believe a person still feels that way inside.  I think he wrote it in 1999 (I think).

So, he was old enough to know what is mind is thinking.  Then, to have him as our President.  Sorry, but I have a problem with that.  I wish I would of know the first time how he really felt.  The people he hung out with like Ayers & Rev. Wright.  I would of never of voted for me.  I also have a problem IF (that's a IF ok), Michele Obama said the word 'whitey'.  Another big problem I have.

I have always been afraid of people. Race means nothing.. it is more the religion of the people that have me scared and I do believe that religion has something to do with the race issues.

It has been worse under Obama, IT IS NOT HIS FAULT, when a black man became president, as a pp stated, people lost their damn minds and started acting ignorant, out loud....only now has the racism been screamed so loud as "patriotic and free speech"

I don't know, I lived through the end of the civil rights movements, saw some pretty bad stuff then, I don't think it's any different now than it's ever been, but then, I've always lived in military communities where it just wasn't tolerated at all.

I feel like it has a lot to do with technology... I know it sounds stupid but since it has become soo easy to share your thoughts and opinions with so many ppl regardless of location ppl feel like they can speak more freely... Also they can say whatever they feel anonymously. Ppl can connect with others who feel the same as them and the feed off of each other.

I live in an extremely diverse community and I find the opposite is true...people of all sorts smile back when you smile at them first and treat them with dignity.

The problem I see is that many make unfounded accusations of racism and with Obama in office its a target. I say I don't agree with Obama because xyz, I'm accused of racism. (True story) I say more blacks voted in the last election than any other presidentisl election, stating a fact, I'm accused of being racist (true story). I didn't vote for Obama because of his policies and I'm accused of hating him for being black (again...true story), which is racism.

I do NOT blame Obama for this. It isn't his fault. I find to blame many of the Obama faithful who take the divisiveness of the president, (because lets b honest, he is pretty polarizing) and attach race to the reason why others may not like him.

I'm sorry, OP, but given the statements I have seen you make in other threads and other posts regarding the Trayvon Martin case, I can't take anything you say about race seriously.  I think you have major race issues.  Please don't visit them on the rest of society.
