Why Are People Saying Romney Won The Debate?

Posted by   + Show Post
He couldn't answer a single question, couldn't give any details...he just blew hot air over and over about Obama's policies without explaining how his would work better, even when given the opportunity. All I heard was "cut PBS", "repeal Obamacare", constant interruptions and politely telling Jim Lehrer to shut up. This wins the debate???

Agree, Romney will push the country into a war that we can't afford on the other side of the planet.  He will aslo cut taxes at the same time.  That has really worked out well in the past, hmmmm?

Quoting radioheid:

I was about a year and a half old during the '84 debates. lol The first debates I recall were those between Bush and Dukakis in '88.

I look forward to the foreign policy debate, though I'm sure Romney will try to seize upon Lybia, and claim Obama hasn't appeased Israel enough.

If Romney wins, we'll be at war with Iran within 12 months. It'll be Korea/Vietnam/Iraq all over again. He's a chickenhawk.

Quoting stacymomof2:

Yes, well the foreign policy debate should be pretty enlightening.

Obama isn't going to present anything new at a domestic policy debate, no way.  He's been campaigning on his plan for months.

I thought he kind of stumbled or hesitated when he talked about "corporate tax cuts.  It was either not true or he is forcing himself to agree with it in order to get other stuff passed.  He almost visibly flinched when he said that.

And that's too bad, actually.  He should stand behind it.  Although that is no way to win an election.  Remember Mondale in the debates in 1984?  (probably not, I know everyone in this group is younger than me, lol)He was like, "well yeah, I'm going to raise taxes.  We have to!  There is no way around it."  lol that didn't work out very well, now did it.  Even though Reagan said he wouldn't raise taxes and actually did.  People prefer to hear lies over a legitimate discussion, it seems.

Quoting radioheid:

I don't think either Obama or Romney "won" the debate. Obama bored me, and Romney annoyed me. Obama didn't offer anything new or insightful, and Romney both lied and offered a tax plan that simply isn't mathematically possible.

And people wonder why I'm voting for Gary Johnson...

*sigh*

Well...there's still two more debates. Maybe one of them will sell me a good deal before I reach the poll.

Quoting stacymomof2:

I thought Obama just let too much by.  He was staying unaggressive and stuck to specfic (read:boring) arguments about how his plans will actually work.

Obama seemed to let Romney just talk his usual rhetoric and tried to address the questions with his actual plans without delving too far into campaigning.

Too bad that "winning" in a debate has less to do with information and more to do with who gets out the most soundbites.  But really, I was kind of surprised that he let so much of the Romney shallow rhetoric by.  Maybe he was trying to get all his info out within the time frame and decided it was more important to get his info accross than trying to tell Romney why he was wrong.  He almost seemed to kind of ignore Romney.

Didn't people have this same criticism of Obama in the 2008 debates?  I think I remember something about that.

It was so obvious that obama lost that even huffpost  had to admit it.  PBS would have looked like idiots if they said obama won.

Quoting stacymomof2:

My point is, is that it ISN'T.  If you watch their news it is absolutely neutral, no editorial.  If you watch their panels they are balanced and respectful.  Thus how a pbs panel was able to conclude that Romney got the better of Obama in this debate.  If they were so slanted they would say Obama won.

Quoting radioheid:

Hence the reason every Republican since Reagan has wanted to ax it.

Quoting stacymomof2:

I thought about that for a minute, too...I watch the PBS discussion after the debate and all of the people on the panel said that Romney "won" the debate.  I thought that was pretty funny...isn't PBS the bastion of socialism, government obedience and liberal spin?  lol

Quoting Moniker:

Slow down a minute....you mean the liberal media announced Romney the winner?? How can that be?

Yeah, they are NOT idiots.  Nor are they biased.

Just because someone doesn't screech away like Fox doesn't mean they are biased in the other direction.  I really feel that any republican who denies that PBS is the most balanced info out there just prefers the bias.

That's funny, if we are going back that far might as well be honest and say it is all Nixon's fault for taking us off the metal standard or Wilson's fault for thinking of the League of Nations. Hell we could blame Europe for allowing their colonies to fall apart and become independent nations. Having to deal with more than half a dozen governments makes international politics tricky.

Quoting Twofeathers:

This "mess" started in Clinton's regime..

Quoting radioheid:

Right, but how do they figure? Romney offered nothing but a return to the Bush era that got us into the mess we're in now.

Quoting smalltowngal:

CNN's poll that just came out said 67% said Romney won and 25% said Obama won.

Thanks. I ended up finding it on C-Span right after posting :)

Quoting Sunshine257:

The group current events and hot topics has a video of the debate.

Quoting Nighttiger:

Are you watching it online by chance? I had to put the kid down and didn't get a chance to catch most of it; just bits and pieces. I want to watch it but I can't find anything but real time analysis.

Quoting tiffyhamm:

I felt that Obama presented better arguments, but on sone things he should have pressed Romney on. I admit I was so upset with how the Pres. presented himself and his arguments during the debate that I got caught up in how theatrical Romney was and based my reaction off the debate on that. I'm watching the debate again and I'm thinking I may have gotten it wrong in saying Romney won. I'm thinking that many others initially felt as I have about this one.

keep spinning away from what I am saying....you lack reading comprehension and logic.

Quoting grandmab125:

Quoting motha2daDuchess:

I did watch, and Mittens was not asked about it, he tried to say that President Obama subscribed to the "trickle down" theory and then he said, "It doesn't work", Mittens said that...see with all the silliness of proclaiming that Mittens "won", what did he win, the most lies spewed in 90 minutes? Sorry, believe Ly'n Ryan has that honor, although, Mittens tried hard to beat it.

Quoting grandmab125:

Quoting motha2daDuchess:

so what is your response to Mittens saying, trickle down doesn't work.....

Quoting grandmab125:

Quoting motha2daDuchess:

um, no, Romney stated, Obama's "trickle down" economy wasn't working....

Quoting toomanypoodles:

Quoting motha2daDuchess:

you do know that the "trickle down" theory is a repub thing, right..

Quoting toomanypoodles:

Right at the top of the hour Obama was asked to respond to something R said about "trickle down economics" O began talking about the importance of education.  He didn't say anything about the topic until his last 30 seconds of time.  I'm screaming, "WHAT?!? Where are you going with that!??" Totally ignored the question he couldn't answer.

Talk about dodging a question.  O did a fine job of that.

He was asked what he thought of it.  Did O maybe not know what that was so he skirted over to education instead?

Obama was asked what he thought about the trickle down theory?  He couldn't point out one thing wrong with it, and instead went off into a rant on on education.  He ignored the question he was asked, because he couldn't asnwer it.

Did you really watch the debate?  Where you on the phone, in another room, on line or what?  Because the moderator did not ask Mitt that question.  He asked Obama.

Not only is your head as thick as a brick, but your as dumb as one too.  How many people have to tell you that it was Obama who was asked that question?

I love this post. He is full of shit,. and as most people, they like to hear bullshit that makes them happy (gossip about the opposing partner that they do not like).

From my understanding, he was rude, and more of an asshole than usual.

Both were spewing shit, neither won in my eyes, both sat their playing tattle tale like children caught in a problem.

so you actually think people want Obama again?   Seriously?    LOL, you are amusing.

Quoting radioheid:

You say "when" as if he's going to win. lol

Quoting candlegal:

Maybe they are worried about getting axed when Romney wins.

This is what I saw also.

Quoting motherslove82:

This. Most of what Obama did was throw out false BS about Romney's plans like he has been doing all along. The difference was that this time Romney was there to correct him. Obama didn't know how to handle that so he just kept repeating the false claims and getting called on it.

Quoting Whaaaaaa....O.o:

Ummm. Romney gave plans and specifics. Did we even watch the same debate?
