Oh just read it...don't pick it apart and attack me for it. ;)

2 cents for a grape?
YOU ARE NOT GOING
TO BELIEVE THIS
At approximately 2:30 pm, September 6, 2012, I entered the Publix store on Main St. in Gainesville, FL to pick up a few items.
I gathered my items and went to the 10 items and under register to check-out. The person in front of me (a white female, approximate age 35-43, fake nails, big braided hairdo, clean clothes, carrying a purse and a plastic drinking cup) put her purchase on the checkout surface - ONE GRAPE.
Yes, that is correct ONE GRAPE. The cashier asked if that was all, she replied yes.
The cashier then weighted the GRAPE and told the woman the cost was $.02 (TWO CENTS). The woman then pulled out her Food Stamp EBT card and swiped it through the credit card machine, requesting $24.98 in cash back.
The cashier asked if she wanted the GRAPE, the woman replied no and the GRAPE was put in the garbage can.
The register recorded the sale as $.02, cash back $24.98. The cashier then asked if four fives would be okay because she was out of tens, the woman agreed and took the $24.98 folded it up and put it in her pocket and left the store.
As the next person in line I asked the cashier as a taxpayer what in the world just happened here?! she said she was on the clock and could not comment.
I then asked if I had actually seen this person purchase and discard a GRAPE, then get cash back on her Food Stamp EBT card.
The cashier responded that it happens all day every day in their store. She also said that if the person buying the GRAPE has it rung up over .02 they get mad and make her reweigh it.
My next comment was to ask the cashier if she planned to vote in November and she said she could hardly wait for November 6 to get here, as one taxpayer to another. I paid for my groceries, in cash, and left the store madder than 10 wet hens.

i dont know what youre talking about.. because im talking about a while back..i shouldve been more specifc.  sorry my bad.
when food stamps were actually like dollar bills..in denominations.  and the food stamp shuffle was somethign that was done a LOT.  people would get something for like 1.10 and then keep the .90 change and do it again and again until they had enough for whatever they needed to pay for with cash because food stamps werent acceptable - like cigs booze or diapers and wipes etc.

Quoting glitterteaz:

you can not get cash for foodstamps EVER.  The thing you are talking about is TANF it is cash assistance and WAY harder to get on.

Quoting Its.me.Sam.:

i call it the food stamp shuffle... but i dont know how it words with those cards.
some people do it because they need the cash to pay for gas or diapers - things they need but cant pay for with food stamps.... unfortunately others do it to pay for cigs or booze or going to the movies and crap like that.

This is most likely the way I have witnessed it happening.

YOu haven't seen this since the late '90s...almost 20 years!

I've seen it since then...but again, I don't know what it is they are using, but I have seen folks turn around and buy things they are not allowed to buy....whatever....I see people scamming. And now CM is glitching on me and I can't get the editor to make this bigger so I can read what I wrote. Sorry

How?  Paper food stamps have been gone a very long time.  This was only possible when paper foodstamps existed. I had a friend who was a pro at it.

If people are purchasing things they are not allowed to buy the store is committing fraud as well.

I dont expect you to even read what I write, I know you do not wish to discuss it with me.  I just want it on the record that I attempted to break through to  you on issues on which you are deceived.

Sorry, Rene, I'm having a hard time seeing this morning and CM keeps glitching on me.  I've made several posts now that have gotten lost in space.  I apologize if I didn't respond, but I have read all your replies.  I hoped I had answered everything that was challenged of me.  I'm not intentionally ignoring you---I have great respect for you, I'd not ever blow you off.

I thought I had responded that I believed this to be a true story, if it isn't then I was gullibale--again---I guess.

I don't know the difference in any of the methods used, but I've seen some wrong doings in the grocery stores and it hasn't been all that long ago.  All I know is what I've seen I perceived to be fraudulent activity.

Did you have any other questions that I may have missed?  Sorry if I didn't catch them....

And I really have to comment on the title sentiments of this post.

If I gave you information that was not true and began a conversation about it would you accept the info I presented as truth when you knew from the start it was a huge lie would you be ok with that.?

If the post becomes hostile over this fact and people are clearly bothered you still are justified and happy in your presentation of lies that were designed to incite not to develop healthy communication.

Why?

Ok, I can't see and have not slept in 28 hours....not sure what you're saying...but I did not think the story was a lie when I posted it.  No, I'm not happy that people are bothered by the post, but I've admitted that a few times now, I didn't post it thinking it was a lie---but I knew it would cause a ruckus toward me---my conservative views usually do around here, and I wanted to open the discussion with what I thought was kind of a funny story involving a 2 cent grape.

And I know I just formed a lousy run on sentence.  Sorry, I'm beat and had a horrible Friday.  I've not yet slept---it's still Friday for me.

Ok fair enough.  I like you a lot when you are displaying heartfelt humor and being what i perceive is you.  What I see in these posts is a poodle on duty with blinders on due to the emotional response you experience with this issue.  that is my perception.

Perceptions arent always correct and even when things are viewed with an educated eye there can be errors because the viewers access to information is hindered by a limited view.  It is the responsible thing to educate yourself fully on things you wish to fight against so that you can count on your own perceptions to be as accurate as possible.

As for other questions I asked you way back if it bothered you more that individuals are cheating or that businesses are committing fraud and making a big profit.  You are very focused on the person you perceive to be getting cash back for foodstamps however if your perception were accurate legally the store would be in a lot bigger trouble than the individual.  I perceive that you may not have considered the role of providers in fraud.

I've done all that.  A month ago CM admitted they had troubles and were working on it.  I told them that three of the banner ads they run at the top are always up there whenever I freeze.  They said they could not replicate the problem in the ads, so it must be me.  I've had no trouble on any other site, not even at mamaslatinas, CM's sister site.

Some Doghouse moms  said they had troubles too, but CM keeps saying it's me.  They tell me to change browsers, but I don't want to do that.  I'm not savvy enough to cope with taht sort of change.  lol. .  I am getting very frustrated with this mess here though.  I have to keep refreshing and opening up a second and third window to get anything read or relpied to.

But notice I came back here to respond to you when I saw the little red button come on!  ;)

Well that's socialism at its best, thanks to Obama it has taken leaps and bounds in establishing itself here in the greatest free country in the world!
President Obama has emulated Lenin in striving to increase state control over such “commanding heights” of our economy as energy, health care, finance, and education, with smaller forays into food, transportation and undoubtedly some areas I am overlooking.

Besides mimicking some of Lenin’s policy strategies, Obama also has adopted Karl Marx’s strategies for gradually socializing an economy. Before I spell out the Marxian nature of many of Obama’s policies, let me emphasize that I am not calling Obama a “Marxist-Leninist, period.” “Marxist-Leninist” connotes the brutal totalitarian police state of the late, unlamented Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. There is no comparison between Barack Obama’s statism and the genocidal, gulag-riddled regime of the Soviet Communists. That being said, Obama’s economic program is taken directly, if not deliberately, from the Marxist-Leninist playbook, and on that basis one may say that Obama tends toward Marxist-Leninist economics. Besides adopting the Leninist strategy of seeking greater control over the commanding heights of the economy, if one reviews Marx’s 10-point platform for how to socialize a country’s economy in stages (“The Communist Manifesto,” chapter two), one finds that Team Obama and his congressional progressive allies have taken actions to further the goals laid out in all 10 of the planks in the Marx platform.

Exactly. I have a girlfriend who does nails and always does mine for free (I babysit for her for free). I don't understand why people feel the need to tell others what they can and cannot have simply because they're on PA. Gods forbid you give yourself a treat now and then.

Ok, so I've put some thought in to why I find this article so off putting. The writer is quick to point out the 'luxuries' the woman seems to have (clean clothes, nails done, hair done) as if people who receive assistance aren't allowed to have these things, that all people who are on PA should look like scum. That it's impossible that someone may have treated her to these things, or maybe she saved her Pennies to have these things done. It makes it seem like anyone who has "nice" things on PA are somehow abusing the system. It's generalizing and it's wrong. I also don't like how this person automatically points out fraud because they don't understand the different forms of PA. This whole article is disturbing and people are dumb enough to buy it as truth..I just don't like it. It lacks substance. Poods, I'm a little disappointed.

This brings to mind the time hubby told me my nails looked good for fake ones lol.  I have never had my nails done but when I was young they were always long and painted.  Polish costs very little, do people really have an issue with people havng pretty nails?  How do we know who paints their own and who gets them painted?i

Oh please, you pay a very small amount towards PA. You sound like you're jealous. :-\

You want more luxury....then work for it DO NOT USE OUR MONEY FOR IT. We don't qualify for shit because we are just above the bar....I can't afford the treats either because I am to busy paying for other people to get free crap at my expense. Socialism at its best and the leading socialist is Obama.
