Calling into the Y94 Morning Playhouse radio show, Fargo-area resident âDonnaâ aired her frustrations about a number of deer-related car accidents she has been involved in recently â three to be exact.
Donna believes the North Dakota and Minnesota Departments of Transportation are responsible for the problem, however, she told the radio hosts that she has written local news outlets about her grievance and they refuse to take her seriously. Itâs extremely frustrating to Donna as she believes she has crafted a very simple and effective solution to her problem.
Well, letâs allow her to explain in her own words:
âMy frustration is that, Minnesota and North Dakota Departments of Transportation would allow these deer crossing in such high traffic areas. I mean, Iâve even seen them on the interstate,â Donna began.
âWhy are we encouraging deer to cross at the interstate? I donât get it,â Donna said to two stunned radio hosts.
We donât get it either.
But it getâs worse. As she goes on, one has to wonder â Can this lady possibly be serious?
âI mean, I understand that deers are animals and they need to travel across the streets occasionally to survive and of course to find food but it seems to me⌠so irresponsible of us to allow these deer crossings to be in areas where these deer are so likely to be struck by oncoming traffic. Wouldnât you agree?â
âUmâŚâ one of the speechless hosts says, followed by a long awkward pause. âYou know, deer crossings arenât telling deer that itâs safe to cross there, itâs just more of an alert for drivers so that they know itâs a high deer population.â
Even after this, âDonna the deer ladyâ still doesnât understand. So they try again.
âYou seem to be under the misunderstanding that the deer are somehow attracted to the deer crossing signs,â another radio host explained.
âWell, yeah, the deer crossing sign is there to allow the deer to know thatâs where they need to cross,â Donna said.
âRight,â he replied sarcastically.
The solution, Donna explained, is to move the deer crossing signs to âlower traffic areasâ with slower speed limits.
After they realized Donna the deer lady was a lost cause on this issue, they promised to help her spread the word and raise awareness about the pervasive societal problem.
They certainly kept their promise to spread the word â the clip has since gone, as Gawker puts it, âultra-viral.â
It made me think of Donna Fargo, a country singer back in the day.
Quoting Donna6503:
That is funny
( but couldn't you change the name "Donna" in the story. No it isn't me!)

A friend of mine is headed to Fargo this month to visit family, and she was thinking of putting up Elephant Crossing signs, to see if she could freak out Donna even more.
LOL! I definitely think your friend should put up some of these signs...maybe one on Donna's street too... What a hoot!

Sheesh. That is hilarious until one realizes that this woman VOTES
I plan to share this story with every one I know. OH MY GOODNESS! Too damn funny.
No doubt she feels some how vindicated in her thoughts for having had the opportunity to air them on the radio.
Poor, poor woman.
In our small town of about 5,000........I think a good 1,000 of us are the deer. She would really be bothered with how they sleep in my back yard, are all over town and cross the roads where they damn well please. lol
