The senate passed the tax hike today

Posted by   + Show Post
What are your thoughts? Is it fair to raise taxes to 39.(something)% on people who earn over $250,000 a year, when almost 50% of Americans paid NO federal taxes last year? How many layoffs and closing business do you predict?

I don't care. It's still me busting my ass to see nearly half my income go.out the door while others live free or nearly free.

Quoting rfurlongg:

Only about 12% of your taxes go towards welfare programs. The majority of your taxes (24% and 22% respectively) go towards defense and pensions. Rest assured that most of your hard earned $ do not go to free loading welfare recipients.

Quoting luckystars2012:

Been there, done that. Worked like Hell to make more money, and now I pay so much in taxes that it hardly makes a difference.

Work your ass off for a year and see nearly half your paychecks go out the window, to pay for people who don't work half as hard as you do. Then tell me how you feel.

Quoting SunshneDaydream:

Live 1 year as a person who makes $7.50 and hour and has to support a family and then tell me that everyone should pay the same tax rate.  SMH.

Quoting luckystars2012:

Everyone else has to pay sales, gas, and property tax as well, on top of their income tax.

Everyone should pat the same tax percentage, and there should be no such thing as a tax return.

Quoting SunshneDaydream:

Everybody does pay taxes, unless they live in a cave.  True, people who don't even make enough money to survive don't have to pay income taxes, but they still pay sales tax, gas tax, and property tax.

To the OP, yes, it's fair.  Wealthy people can afford higher taxes, poor people can't afford ANY *income* taxes.

Quoting Healthystart30:

39% taxes is a lot! But no I think everyone should pay taxes, people should definitely not be getting money out that they never put in!

Not everyone owns a corporation, not all CEO's make millions of dollars. What you are suggesting is not feasable for a lot of companies out there.

Quoting lga1965:

Well then the owner, the manager, the CEO ...the ones making the big bucks can take a salary cut so they don't have to let anyone go. Its all about greedy people wanting to keep things the way they are and screw the little guys. They need to get over themselves.

Did you feel that way in 2000? which is exactly what the taxes were then..

The people you are referring too and busting their asses too and can barely put food on their tables and gas in their cars and clothes on their kids backs...

No one lives for free

A family of 4 on $50,000 a year paying what they CAN vs a family of 4 making $250,000 is a HUGE difference

Wow, you really have no idea, smh.

Quoting Paperfishies:

No one in the US watches their kids "go hungry". The middle class is always the ones who get fucked over. Poor people get taken care of by the government via welfare and Rich people are rich, the middle class gets told "too bad". Poor people don't get fucked over in our country, they get helped, so much so that many become dependent in the government and that help becomes crippling.

Beginning of socialism... get punished for success.

Doing it the other way punishes the poor for not being successfull. Either way someone loses, at least this way the one losing won't be homeless and watch their kids go hungry because of it.  Just saying...

Well then they should apply themselves a little more!

Quoting AdrianneHill:

That's a regressive tax structure that places undue burden on the poor. They pay a higher percentage of their income on taxes because there is less income. It benefits only the wealthy and lazy to tax this way because it will soon be too expensive for the poor megamajority to buy things to get taxed in the first place.

Quoting JMmama:

This. Or get rid of the income tax and make a higher federal sales tax.

Quoting OHgirlinCA:

No, it isn't fair.  Everyone should be paying the same percentage across the board.

Obama sticks to guns on tax increase for wealthiest Americans

Updated at 2 p.m. ET -- At a campaign-style event at the White House Friday, President Barack Obama invited congressional leaders to the White House next week for talks on how to avoid spending cuts and at least some of the tax increases scheduled to occur in January. But he insisted that tax increases on the wealthiest Americans must be part of any deal.

I'm thinking the OP is referring to this... but nothing passed that I'm aware of.

And if those tax cuts expiring cost you your job becasue your employer cannot afford to keep you, are you still for letting them expire?

( i really do want an answer)

Quoting NWP:

I believe that it is fair to let the Bush tax cuts expire for everyone who makes over $250,000 a year.

LOL at employer can't afford to keep people. Less employees equals less production equals less sales. They are only hurting their selves and their own business if they refuse net a little less.

Yes I did. I have always felt that taxes should be an equal percentage for all. If I have to pay 30%, so should you. Why should I be punished for my hard earned success?

That family of 4 making 50k pays zero income taxes, while I pay over 30%. Not ok. Not what America should be about.

I don't work as hard as I do to pay for OTHER people.
