American Public Perception...or reality and truth?

Posted by   + Show Post

This morning I read a post in the Confessions group with this meme, or whatever you might call it, seen below. Here is a link to that POST.

I do not know enough to say whether or not *I* personally think this is true, but the overwhelming responses in the affirmative kinda surprised me.

So what do you think?

THE MUSLIMS ARE NOT HAPPY!

They’re not happy in Gaza.
They’re not happy in Egypt.
They’re not happy in Libya.
They’re not happy in Morocco.
They’re not happy in Iran.
They’re not happy in Iraq.
They’re not happy in Yemen.
They’re not happy in Afghanistan.
They’re not happy in Pakistan.
They’re not happy in Syria.
They’re not happy in Lebanon.

SO, WHERE ARE THEY HAPPY?

They’re happy in Australia.
They’re happy in Canada.
They’re happy in England.
They’re happy in France.
They’re happy in Italy.
They’re happy in Germany.
They’re happy in Sweden.
They’re happy in the USA.
They’re happy in Norway.
They’re happy in Holland.
They’re happy in Denmark.

Basically, they’re happy in every country that is not Muslim…and unhappy in every country that is!

AND WHO DO THEY BLAME?

Not Islam.
Not their leadership.
Not themselves.

THEY BLAME THE COUNTRIES THEY ARE HAPPY IN! And then—wait for it!—they want to change those countries to be like….THE COUNTRIES THEY CAME FROM WHERE THEY WERE UNHAPPY!

Excuse me, but I can’t help wondering…how damn dumb can you get?

Thinking the author is an idiot doesn't have anything to do with politics, it has to do with decency.

Quoting PortiaRose:

Well of course. Its politically correct to not accept this persons perspective.

Quoting krysstizzle:

My vote goes to "gross oversimplification of a complex geopolitical issue".

I thought I was pretty clear in the op gals, let me try again.

The responses in the OTHER POST are what is interesting to me.

How can SO MANY people think this meme is accurate if there is no truth to it?

THAT is the point.

The post has some 269 reponses, most of which agree with the sentiment expressed in the meme.

Here is one of the responses that, IMO, fits:

I think it's ignorant to think this is ignorant... Even ready this to my SO who is military, been deployed 4 times...he agreed with me on this. Just cuz it isn't politically correct doesn't mean it's not correct...actually, chances are, if it's not politically correct it's actually pretty accurate.

Quoting caito:

It sounds like a gross generalization. Of course the person who wrote this doesn't know every single Muslim person.

What makes you think the person who wrote this is talking about every single Muslim on the planet?

1 mom liked this

Quoting PortiaRose:

Do we really need to know "every single" muslim...

Black person....

Woman.....

Insert any other minority?

Why do we need to know every person? Generalizations aren't all that bad.

I agree and I don't think most generalizations mean they are speaking for every single member of any group.  I think they mean "many or most."

You know the big differences I see between the "happy" column and the "unhappy" column? The ones that are "happy" haven't been at war with their neighbors for the last 2000 years.

I don't know about Muslims in other countries, but here in the U.S. they aren't trying to make our government similar to the one they came from. They just want to be able to walk down the street without getting rotten fruit thrown at them and being called a "terrorist".

This.  And one of those complex historical factors is western imperialism.

Quoting rfurlongg:

I think it is just a simplification of very complex current and historical factors.

The whole thing was funny but this part was the funniest:

THEY BLAME THE COUNTRIES THEY ARE HAPPY IN! And then—wait for it!—they want to change those countries to be like….THE COUNTRIES THEY CAME FROM WHERE THEY WERE UNHAPPY!
