The Innernut is named after Al Gore---its creator.

Is internet a proper noun?

An internet is an internetwork of computer networks.   There are multiple internet-with-a-small-i.

The Internet is the big global internet we all know of and use, of which there is only one, and that's the internet-with-a-capital-I.

*sigh* as usual you either forget to check snopes, or think it more amusing to troll.  Y'know wasting people's time for your own amusement is hardly Christian, poodles.

Claim:   Vice-President Al Gore claimed that he "invented" the Internet.

Status:   False.

(And no, you can't claim that you are not wasting people's time because it is 'just' a joke and they shouldn't bother to correct you.   There are too many people demonising Gore because they want to trash the idea of anthropogenic global climate change, that foolish slurs like that shouldn't be let pass, lest they add to the corrosive drip drip drip of propaganda.)

No, "internet" is not a proper noun. A proper noun is a name of a person or place.

People and places are types of unique entity, but they are not the only types of unique entity.

The name of a person is a proper noun, but that relationship isn't reversible, because it is the meaning of "is" that's equivalent to "is an example of" rather than "is defined as".
