Is there ever a good reason to smack you teenager in the mouth or face?

I've never done it but I heard a mom talking about doing it to her son. I don't know what he said, but apparently, she continues to have behavioral problems with him. The mouth smack hasn't seemed to help.

Thoughts? I hope that mine never say anything so bad that I feel like violent.

Hitting a child in the face is simply wrong. Beyond, really.

No.

I've tapped my kid's mouth as a toddler when they bit me but that was soft and definitely not a smack... :-/

I hate to say it.. but when my kids get older if the words "f u" come out of their mouth, they may get smacked.

No. Never OK at any age. If she is having such difficulties perhaps she should seek professional help.

No. It just doesn't help. It only shows that you as a parent are out of control and using violence to regain it.

My mom used to slap me and I hated it. It is so disrespectful. I told myself I wouldn't do it to my dd but man she's a teenager and sometimes she tempts me!!!!

Side note: What's worse is when parents pop their toddler in the mouth. Ugh!!!!

I wouldn't but it does remind me of when I we growing up. My mom and I were watching a talk show about out of control kids with the kids hitting the moms, well she asked me if I would ever hit her (I was 16 at the time and never have hit her) I told her only if she hit me in the face first. She smiled and said she agreed with that lol.

I admit I have done it at least twice (once per teen) in a shocked reaction to what had been said which I will not repeat.  It was my girls not my boy.  I also think until you have dealt with teen rebellion you dont know what you will do.

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver
