Would you stay on the phone?

Two children have fallen into the ice and you have called 911.  The children have you and a grandmother coming to their aid.  911 insists you stay on the line.  Would you stay on the line?

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver

I would lay the phone down on the ice but not hang up. My child is more important.

No, I'd hand the phone off to Grandma and help the children!

That happened to me during a time when cell phones didn't exist. I was pulled out of the pond and put on a sled where I was pulled running/fast walking to a fire station a mile away. The people who pulled me out had the good sense to strip me naked and put their clothes on me.

Oh hypothermia.

I'd call, tell them where we are and then pull the kids out of the ice. 911 dispatcher be damned.

Had similar situations, like doing CPR.

No, I verify they are on the way, and get back to helping them.

If there is more than one of us, the other person if able, can stay on the line.

Give location... Verify they are on the way... Then I'd set the phone down and pull my kids out.

No, I would not.  I would make sure they knew where we were and I would not hang up on them but damn if I am going to sit there and talk with the dispatcher when I should be helping my child.
