I'm protesting a protest outside of an abortion clinic tomorrow... UPDATED!!!

Posted by   + Show Post
And I need idea for signs! There's a pro life protest tomorrow at one of our 2 abortion clinics. A group of fellow pro choice heathens have decided to stand in their opposition. The only signs I've come up with are "I'll be here for hugs when you're done" and "it's your body, your choice" got any others? I have to leave by 1:00 central time so any input would be awesome!

UPDATE:

So, we just wrapped up over here and it went extremely well. We talked to the staff and they gave us permission to escort the ladies in and out of the building. We stood with signs that said 'we will walk with you for support' We all brought our iPods and headphones so the girls could wear them and not be exposed to the nastiness being spewed their way. We held up large cardboard signs at our sides to block the PL signs. I even got a hug **sniffle**. We handed out cards with our phone numbers, local crisis centers, and health departments to access birth control. We also handed out pamphlets on birth control. It was a peaceful day and I'm thankful we got to shield women who were already going through a difficult time from ugliness. We used many suggestions that came from you ladies. Thank you all so much!

I said that their signs are futile... Anyway, you are defensive so I won't go on, other than to say that I applaud and respect your empathy.

Hey, abortions are performed everyday. Many women are scared and many alone. I don't find it futile to offer my support. I do plenty of things to help my community...maybe seeing a friendly face will help these women in their time of need. Maybe it won't. Either way, I'm there to support them and their choice. If you don't agree with the protest, don't join in on one. That simple.

Quoting Lunarprancer:

ABSOLUTELY, and I say it out loud when I drive by them holding their futile signs.

Letting them know they aren't alone?  Them being who?  Will you be outside of a clinic where a particular population goes?

Im just saying that when it comes to that point, no one holding a sign is helping anything.

Quoting ashellbell:

Would you say that to the pro life protestors as well? Letting women know that they aren't alone isn't a waste of my time. Thank you though.

Protest plays an important role in society. It's a democratizing avenue, particularly for those groups that are (or have the potential, or have in the past been) silenced and marginalized.

Ok.  I hope she impacts positively.

Quoting AliKatCam:

Its not about upping the tension. The signs she is carrying are not towards the pro-lifers. They are towards the women who go in. The pro-lifers are freaking vicious and downright abusive. Seeing a sign of support in a crowd of hate helps loosen the tension you feel.

Quoting Lunarprancer:

Through confrontation?  Upping tension?  I don't see it.

Quoting AliKatCam:

I think it is very productive. She is helping to try to stop the verbal and physical abuse by pro-lifers towards women at abortion clinics.

I will say nothing confrontational to the pro lifers. How is offering a hug to women confrontational. My signs will be geared in support to the women, not one upping the pro lifers.

My suggestion:

Hypocrisy is when... 8 out of 10 'pro-life' protesters whose daughters were able to get an abortion in a nice clean legal clinic claim that THEIR case was a special exception, but it should be banned for everyone else.

Maybe you could offer to volunteer as a buffer for the ladies going into the clinic? I know one of the clinics near here has people who will escort the women in and out of the clinic and stand between them and the protestors and try to talk over what they are saying.

I applaud you for using your 1st amendment rights, even if I heartily disagree with your position.
