I was just listening to an interview about Quentin Tarantinos new film Django Unchained. The interviewer mentioned that she was black then asked him why he, a white guy, was the right person to tell this story.

Seemed like kind of a weird question...its not like Peter Jackson is a Hobbit.

Why not? Will any black people today know how slavery was besides stories or reading it in in book? I doubt it.

Just upon reading the gist of this movie, it seems the slavery is geared toward the type of slavery still going on. Short of suggesting an actual person who has been a slave making the movie the question seems to be tragically errant in the understanding that slavery was/is more than just something that happened at a set time in history to only a select race.

Since there are no living slaves, any person, black or white, that has studied the history of slavery, is just as qualified as the next guy!

 Why not?

There were slave masters, and slaves in every family down through history.

I don't believe he's jewish, either, but he made a film that addressed their treatment at the hands of the nazis.

he made kill bill and he's not a woman.

I doubt he's a "cleaner" or a hitman, or a boxer, or a gangster, or a gimp, etc, but they are all in Pulp Fiction.

Of course he can make a movie about slavery.  As long as he depicts the situation at hand in the best way possible, keeping it real as possible.

People will find almost any thing to bitch about these days.
