What would the world be like in your opinion? I saw this question asked on Facebook and thought it would be interesting to see the opinions in this group.

So,hypothetically, if no one believed in anything religiously, what do you think? For example would there be more world peace since there may be less wars?

I don't know about war and peace but I do know we would be much farther along, technologically speaking.

Separating out religion from God....

Without religion, a better world and much fewer wars and violence.

There would probably be less war. The current 'war' is, in fact, due to religion. Both sides think their holy book is correct (When both holy books state the same stories.. o.O).

There would probably less deaths due to stupid things like one kid being gay and a group of thugs thinking it would be fun to kill him due to what their holy book says.

We would probably be farther ahead in tech as well

Lack of religion would not curb war and violence. The human race would simply find another reason for war. Religion is just an excuse for war, not the actual cause. Human nature is the actual cause.

Honestly, I think people would just fight about something else if you take religion out of the equation. A lot of Americans will say we're at war in the Middle East over oil. I would be curious about the chaity orgizations that would pop up to fill in the gaps. On one hand, I don't know if you would have as many charities. On the other hand, there are a lot of dumb, religious charities.  I guess looking at a lot of European countries, I suppose we would go to a more socialist system. Either that, or communist like China.

I think the world would still be the same. There wouldn't be wars or acts of violence in God's name, but those that would do harm would have another excuse to justify their actions and wars.

I remember a pic of the World Trade Center with the caption "imagine....a world without religion", so my mind goes there first.

Female genital mutilation might not have ever occured, however, I'm not sure how much of it is cultural, or if it is all cultural but derived from religion.

There probably wouldn't be much violence against gays, women, etc. or any group that have been maligned in any holy book.

There wouldn't be stupid shit on FB about shooting in schools being caused by "God was taken out of school".

No one would care if Obama WAS a muslim or Christian, because they wouldn't exist.

Much, much less violence and hate. Religion breeds these things.

I think the world would be similar to what it is today in terms of people doing both good and bad things to one another.  There would probably be a different set of rationales for one tribe to exclude other tribes.  NOKD (not our kind, dear) thinking is one of humanity's greatest obstacles.
