Obama set to use children as political props in speech gun control

Obama Will Unveil Gun Measures Flanked by Children From ‘Around the Country’ Who Wrote Concerned Letters

Roughly a month since the massacre of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that President Obama will be presenting gun control recommendations on Wednesday, flanked by children who wrote concerned letters in the aftermath of the tragedy.

“They will be joined by children from around the country who wrote the president letters in the wake of that tragedy expressing their concerns about gun violence and school safety, along with their parents,” he explained.

The steps could include ordering stricter action against people who lie on gun sale background checks, seeking to ensure more complete records in the federal background check database, striking limits on federal research into gun use, ordering tougher penalties against gun trafficking, and giving schools flexibility to use grant money to improve safety.

Obama is vowing not to back off his support for sweeping gun legislation that would require congressional backing – including banning assault weapons, limiting the capacity of ammunition magazines and instituting universal background checks – despite opposition from the influential gun lobby.

Fox News host Megyn Kelly broke the news during her broadcast Tuesday, via Gateway Pundit:

Kelly read her Twitter feed to get immediate reaction to Carney’s remarks.

“[People are] calling it disgusting, calling it shameless, one person pointing out that…those who feel differently than the president should have their own news conference with children whose lives were saved by guns.”

But White House officials believe that moving swiftly on gun proposals at a national level, before the shock over the Newtown shooting fades, gives Obama the best chance to get his proposals through Congress.

This is not the first time President Obama has utilized children and letter-writers in seeking support for his agenda.

After his position on gay marriage “evolved,” the president publicly responded to little Sophia’s letter about her two dads, and in a YouTube video uploaded roughly 3 years ago, the president read a series of “heartbreaking” letters about the nation’s health care system.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Excuse me. I will say "wrong to shoot to kill ". Is that better? I do think you gun owners who feel so confident in your abilties really could easily WOUND. And not kill. Admit it....you don't really care do you? Sorry but everyone in law enforcement agree that you need to shoot to wound. Yes I have family in law enforcement.

WOUNDING an intruder ....what is wrong with just WOUNDING them? Why do some moms here say that if you use a gun you must use it to kill, not wound? They say exactly that. That is the criminal mind at work- no better than an intruder.

I don't appreciate sarcasm when discussing something this serious.

Lady, Have you ever shot a weapon? Are you a sharpshooter? Even for those of us who ARE familar with our weapons, we probably would not all win awards with our aim. If someone is in my house will ill intent, I will aim center mass and shoot if they don't scramble as soon as they see me aiming at them. Sure, I could aim for their kneecap, but odds are I would miss. And if the intruder has a weapon of their own, which I may or may not know in the heat of the moment, I don't want to waste time on his kneecap anyway. He can still shoot back at me with a busted knee.

And btw, how DARE you call us evil for defending our families!?

Its just like him to jump on a tragedy like this for his own gain.

Its not surprising, he makes sure that few white white women  and one lone white guy and mixed in the brown ones to get the best photo op possible.

That's a fine and preferable stance for law enforcement. But I am NOT law enforcement and I am not routinely and professionally trained to deal with situations like this. If someone breaks into my home, I would probably be so amped up on adrenaline that my aim would not be as good as it is when I'm perfectly calm. Makes sense, doesn't it? So if I am center mass, it is likely I'll hit his shoulder, which is good enough for me. And do I care? No. Why should I care? This guy is breaking the law, breaking into MY home, possibly to rape me and my 2 daughters while he's robbing me of MY hard-earned posessions. And you want me to care about HIS well being? Screw that.

I dontcare about him but I would care about you if you murdered someone . You should care about you and who you would become....
Something to think about.

I was not being sarcastic.

The first rule of using a gun is never point a gun at someone if you are not prepared to kill them. That isn't a criminal mind, that's common sense. Shooting to wound is dangerous. You must be an expert shot, it's not like you see in the movies where you can shoot a gun out of someone's hand. If they are shooting at you, if you shoot to wound, they are still able to shoot you.

Here's the sarcasm......Glad to know an intruder's life is more important to you than your own and your family's lives. SMH

And no sarcasm.....I can live with myself if I kill someone that is intent on harming me or my family, and if they don't leave when told to leave with a gun pointed at them, they made the decision. I would not be able to live with myself if I did nothing or shot to wound and missed or didn't wound them enough that they were able to harm or kill my family.

Yes, when people break into our house to steal from or harm the people in the house and don't accept our invitation to vacate the premises immediately, one of us will call 911 and the other will shoot at them. Will we kill them? It might happen.

THEY are the evil ones, not us.

Quoting lga1965:

"Props" huh?  well good for him! It is an excellent approach . Kids still care about people and don't want to see people being killed with guns. Adults have become hard hearted and don't give a crap. They just want their guns and want to be able to use them when they think its handy. Too many people say they will kill intruders. That is evil.

So I say good for the President and more power to him!  good

Never intentially wound someone! You could become responsible for their medical bills. Also, if you wound an idiot who is high on drugs and you don't kill him, you are far more likely to be the one that winds up dead.

I'm an expert shot, come in my house without being invited, you get a chance with the dogs wounded your ass, you don't leave, your dead. It's that simple. My kids and my parents are too precious to me, no one is going to hurt us if I can help it.
