Rick Santorum Says ‘Antagonism Toward Christianity' Is Ruining the Country
Former presidential contender Rick Santorum and the conservative Family Research Council's Tony Perkins chatted this week on the radio program "Washington Watch" about the supposed moral decline of America.
And why are we in such bad shape?
You guessed it: Feminists, gays, and non-Christians are ruining the U.S. of A.
First, in a conversation with FOX News Radio's Todd Starnes, Perkins remembered fondly the days of religious educational establishments and corporal punishment:
I remember my third grade teacher had a big Bible, one of the biggest Bibles I ever saw, sitting on the corner of her desk, and on the other side of the desk was a yardstick, and I think she used the yardstick more. In classrooms today, you couldn't have either one.
Later, Santorum cut right to the chase (oh-so-eloquently, I might add) about what's wrong with this country:
The cultural indicators that I talked about earlier that are sort of going the wrong way, we're, you know, in ever-increasing numbers, less and less people here in America, you know, and believe in God, and believe in Jesus Christ, and believe in truth and right and wrong.
But who's to blame for this moral degeneration?
The universities and the media, of course! Santorum elaborates:
It's understandable, I mean, if you certainly, if you look at popular culture and what comes out of Hollywood, if you go to our schools and particularly our colleges and universities, they are indoctrinating in a sea of relativism and a sea of antagonism toward Christianity - religion in general, but Christianity in particular.
A sea of relativism and antagonism!? The horror!
Finally, Santorum waxes poetic about how our War on Religion has reduced America to filth and smut:
Abortion is a symptom, marriage is a symptom, I mean pornography is, all of these are symptoms to the fundamental issue that we've gotten away from the truth and the Truth-Giver.
Perverts and heathens, every last one of us! You can listen to the conversation over at Right Wing Watch... not that you'd want to.

This is exactly the problem. Right and wrong can be divined from sources other than religion, or other than Bible and Christianity. Truth is a funny term when discussing non-provable supernatural deities. The Muslims think they have the truth, the Christians think they have it (and they don't all agree on which of them are doing it right), the Jews think they know it, etc.
Meanwhile, we are told that those who don't believe just a certain way don't know right from wrong.
Very distressing.

Key word - Antagonism
Where do you see antagonism? I see a country that's three fourths self-identified Christian.
A very high percentage of your posts would qualify.
I had a feeling you would think so. That's what's wrong with the position you (and Santorum) are taking. It's an inability to discern the difference between antagonism towards Christians or Christianity and a desire to have any religion's privileges and preferences in the governmental/public sphere elminated to make sure there is a fair and equal footing for everyone.

No privilege in the Government sphere - knock it off.
No one is equal Publicly, another thread going on about White Privilege, I'm pissed at Blonde Haired Blue Eyed, Small Waisted Big Breasted vixens having privileges that I will never see.
Be the best that you can be with what you have, tearing down something else doesn't build you up.

I thought Republicans believed in accepting responsibility for their own actions?
Santorum is probably responsible for generating more antagonism against Christianity than any other living American, bar Fred Phelps.
