Why is eating horemeat such a horrible thing? We eat pigs, cows, snakes and all kinds of things so why is horse meat so different and repulsive? I'm not answering my poll until I get some responses to know the points

:( I wouldn't do it unless I had no other source of food.

Horses aren't kosher so they're out as a food source for me.

Its the social stigma of it! If you grew up eating it you wouldn't think its weird but most cultures don't so its taboo.

From what I understand the U.S. is the only country that doesnt eat everything. Around Europe eats horsemeat. China eats dogs and cats. That type of thing. Idk why maybe horses are deemed pets.

I think I just said this to my DH last week.  I asked him if he found out a delicious dinner he just ate was or had horse meat in it, would he be upset. and he said if it was good he would not care.  Overall, the world does not really treat horses well, the ones who are not raised to be a work tool, are raised for racing.  Otherwise they sit in a stall, waiting for kids to take rides on them all day.  I told him a lot of people have them like pets, but I think we decided that would probably be the minority of the horses in the world.  ANyway, I have always loved horses, and would choose not to eat one.  But I don't thinkit is the end of the world if other people do.  We eat cows, pigs, chickens, rabbits, lamb, ducks, deer, bison, ostrich, alligator, frogs, snail, fish, etc....  SO what's the big difference??

I don't get it.  I don't eat horse or pig because they're not kosher but I don't get the visceral anti reaction to eat.  I mean, I eat organ meats practically every day!  If I didn't keep kosher, I don't think that horse or pig would be inherently off the menu either.
