I know with all the weather systems and such that it might be a far thought from some minds about planting a garden and the like.

Do you plan on planting a garden this year or making other changes to be more self sufficient?

I want to plant garlic! I use a LOT of garlic. Is it an easy grow? well, when you don't have the mower out...lol

Quoting Matriarch87:

Yes we plant a huge garden every spring.

Filled with tomatoes, garlic, all kinds of peppers, sweet corn, cucumbers, spinache, carrots and onions.  We were trying to get broccoli to sprout by the shed but I accidentally mowed it down, oopsies.

I grow herbs year round in my kitchen...we also have grape vines, a pear tree, a cherry tree and a walnut tree.  Those things take care of themselves though and we just harvest the bounty : )

 EXCITING!

Quoting smalltowngal:

England. Waiting for final confirmation from hubby's business and details with how long we'll be there.
Quoting IhaveHisjoy:

 Where ya going?

Quoting smalltowngal:

I probably won't since it looks like we'll be out of country for a year. When we get back, I will be doing a rather large one. We'll hopefully also build our greenhouse, expand our aquaponic system and maybe get some goats. I should be participating in a cow share by then where several families take turning milking a cow and splitting the milk.

I have heard its difficult from others but our garlic seems to really like our set up. Here is a website with tons of great info on growing garlic.

I'd say weeding is most important and so is gentle watering.

I grow enough to supply my parents during the spring and summer as well as us.  Then I spend a great deal of time canning it or I use a lot it for my catering jobs during the spring.   The tomatoes are really useful for wedding dinners.
