Yes that's sarcasm. I just saw this on Facebook, two quotes from the new pope. Makes me glad I'm agnostic.

the words "wonderful pope" are an oxymoron.
So then business as usual? The elected Pope has ideas that coincide with his religions book. No surprise here really.
Not sure when that quote was said. Hopefully it is old and his opinion on women's roles has changed, but lets face it he is an old man. Many men of his age or of a like mind. Its how they were raised.
On a good note, he stood up for un wed mothers, even calling them courageous.

my thoughts exactly. I don't think his views are any different than the views of the Popes who served before him. That's religion for you. I had a FB friend who was very upset over this as well. I get the Catholic church is hungry for change but I don't think it will be as soon as everyone is hoping
Business as usual? Will the RCC continue to enable pedophilia?
Remember, those are translations of what he said. Nuances are often lost in translations.
That said, no one should expect that the RCC is going to change its views on the male priesthood and certainly not on scriptural matters regarding sexual behavior.
This is true. He chastised priests who were declining to baptize the babies of unwed mothers.
