Saudi women can ride bikes, as long as they don't want to get anywhere

Famously conservative Saudi Arabia will now allow women to ride motorbikes and bicycles, but only in restricted areas. Because of the ultraconservative Islamic dictate that prevents women from driving, women must be accompanied by men while riding, and they also must remain clothed in the full head-to-toe abaya garment. They're only allowed to ride bikes for entertainment — not as a form of transportation. They also have to avoid areas where young men gather, as the sight of women operating a simple machine and moving at faster-than-running but slower-than-car speeds presumably has a devastatingly distracting effect on men. No word on Razor scooters yet, though. [Source]
