A friend of mine posted this on her page.

If you do not support marriage equality, and you currently patronize any of these products/stores/sites...would you stop immediately upon finding out that they do support same sex marriage?

What does incest have to do with SSM? Hetero marriage is legal and if a brother and sister married, it's still incest.

Quoting JoshRachelsMAMA:

So would it be acceptable if two brothers married each other or two sisters?

We already have some of the "what will be next" making its voice known.

Quoting lizzielouaf:

You're 100% correct Carpy however currently outside the scope of the SSM agenda. Notice I said currently because we never do know what will be next, do we?

Quoting Carpy:

It could still be two consenting adults who just want to marry the one they love.

Quoting lizzielouaf:

That's not SSM, that is incest.

Why are we banning hetero sibling marriage? Because it's incest. I for one don't give a fig if siblings want to marry, and if it becomes legal, then so be it.

Quoting 12hellokitty:

Right, but why would it be wrong to re-define incest?  Since marriage isn't about children what would be the reason to discriminate against Same Sibling Marriage?

Consenting adults, sure.

No.

An adult can make these decisions.

I don't know why the world must go topsy turvy to allow non-related consenting adults to marry.

Quoting talia-mom:

So are we going to ban marriages where a wife is subservient due to the power imbalance?

Simply because people are uncomfortable with these relationships, power issues or not, is not justification to tell two male siblings their love is forbidden and illegal.

Quoting romalove:

Quoting talia-mom:

And there is no reason you can't say marriage is between two conscenting adults of the opposite sex.

Simply because of the ick factor of incest or polygamy should have no bearing on it.   If two siblings willingly consent to a relationship, why should the government have a say?   Same thing with a man and 4 women.

If we as a society truly believe in equality and freedom, then why are we limiting what the government will recognize between adults as legal?

Quoting talia-mom:

it is still same sex marriage.   Both are male.

So, why focus on the relative part?

Quoting lizzielouaf:

Did I say it was?

Quoting talia-mom:

Why is that wrong?

Quoting lizzielouaf:

That's not SSM, that is incest.

This is utter nonsense.

There is no reason you can't say marriage is between any two non-related consenting adults.

No kids

No animals

No incest

Why is it wrong?  Because there is an inequality in family relationships, power inequalities, that would disrupt healthy family relationships if we permit this sort of thing.  This is inherent in incestual relationships and can't be parsed out.  There is a benefit to society to maintain strong family relationships, and keeping those families incest free is important.

You didn't pay attention.

I didn't say "ick" factor.

I said inherent power imbalances in families, including within sibling relationships.

There is reason to say that gay couples can marry, and the reason is mostly rooted in the tax codes, which give them a disadvantage over heterosexual couples.

It is easier to allow them to marry than to overhaul all of the tax codes.

The post references marriage equality.  Why would that not include same sibling marriage?  You can't control who you love, and no one chooses to be siblings.....

And yet you have problems with people who wonder why the world must go topsy turvy to allow to adults of the same gender to marry.

Neither marriage bothers yours.  But only one of them you accept.

Like I said in a previous reply, I don't care what 2,or 3 or more related or unrelated consenting adults get married. (well, I wasn't that specific but I'm trying to cover the possiblities here).

At first I thought you were using the "slippery slope" theory, but you weren't, sorry I misunderstood.
