....were supposedly a bunch of gods.

This is a post to talk about the movement from polytheism to monotheism.

I'm interested in why people think older religions were largely polytheistic and why modern religions (for the most part, all the major ones at any rate) are monotheistic.

What could be the reason that people migrated from the idea of many to the idea of one?

 Good question...I'm wondering if they slowly merged all of the different personality aspects into one being...or just plain found it easier to market and believe in one being...

Jews have been monotheistic for almost 6,000 years.

Christianity for 2,000.

Islam for 1500 or so.

I think it had to do with mankind's yen for power and control. (some of mankind anyway)
