Tsarnaev family received $100G in benefits

Posted by   + Show Post

The Tsarnaev family, including the suspected terrorists and their parents, benefited from more than $100,000 in taxpayer-funded assistance — a bonanza ranging from cash and food stamps to Section 8 housing from 2002 to 2012, the Herald has learned.

“The breadth of the benefits the family was receiving was stunning,” said a person with knowledge of documents handed over to a legislative committee today.

The state has handed over more than 500 documents to the 11-member House Post Audit and Oversight Committee, which today met for the first time and plans to call in officials from the Department of Transitional Assistance to testify.

“I can assure members of the public that this committee will actively review every single piece of information we can find because clearly the public has a substantial right to know what benefits, if any, this family or individuals accused of some horrific crimes were receiving,” said state Rep. David Linsky (D-Natick), the committee’s chairman.

Linsky’s committee has requested documents from the DTA, the state’s Medicaid director and Health and Human Services Secretary John Polanowicz. But so far the committee has not released the records publicly, citing a privilege the DTA is asserting under state law.

Transitional assistance officials also told the Herald tonight that the agency was conducting its own investigation into whether Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s family ever notified the DTA about his extended trip to Russia, and has since expanded its probe to include a full history of the benefits received by the entire Tsarnaev family.

Quoting candlegal:

Do you realize they are giving illegal immigrants benefits just for coming here?  They don't have to have children to get them.  Have you even seen the advertising they are doing in Mexico to get people to come here and live off of Americans?

Quoting sherry132:

Not until either 2010 or 2011. Not the entire time. As for the watch lists, there is no way that the welfare department would have that information, nor should they. There would be a lot of innoncent people being denied who are not guilty of anything but being poor.

Quoting candlegal:

The older brother was on a watch list, he had no business getting benefits.

Quoting sherry132:

While I fully understand people being angry about this, I wonder if anyone really understands how little money that is. Over a decade, they received an average of 10 grand a year.

I don't think that is an extreme amount. Also the only way we can prevent funding anyone who might be a terrorist someday is to take rights away from all Americans and let children go hungry.

apology accepted even though you weren't the one who originally made the statement.

Quoting LucyMom08:

I'm sorry for my improper vowel usage and misspelling...you knew who we were talking about...

And yes, he didn't get shot in the face, he pulled the trigger...

Quoting candlegal:

Oh, you mean Dick Cheney.  I thought maybe Dick chaney was someone different.    It didn't actually happen to him, did it, it happened to his hunting partner.

Quoting LucyMom08:

Dick Chaney? Our VP who accidentally shot his hunting partner in the face?

Quoting candlegal:

who is Chaney, and what happened to him?

Actually I like that he golfs all the time.   Every time he is out golfing, he isn't screwing up something else in the country.

Quoting marmie41:

After what happened to Chaney, no was in hell was he going to be a duck hunter. That is why he golfs all the damn time. LOL

Quoting Billiejeens:

I think that they will simply add on a wing to the United States Golfers Association building for him.

Quoting marmie41:

It was a Presidential Library. All former presidents have them. So will Obama when he is out of office.

LOL it is Cheney, one of the principals at school is named Chaney. So I always go to that spelling. And yes Obama does not want to duck hunt because he is afraid he might get "Cheneyed."

I was on PA for one year. I received section 8 and foodstamps after my ex threw me and the kids out. Just one year, I made 9600 from the state. 500 in section 8 and 300 a month for food. That doesn't even count the fact they paid for me to go to school OR that I had reduced utilities during that time.

And there are TONS of people just in my Walmart, driving fancy cars, with expensive purses doing WAY better than I was on welfare.

There are a LOT who are getting more than 10 grand a year and don't really need all that money.

The father moved them here because their lives were in danger in their country. SO we should have told the two little girls, who've done nothing, that they should be shot or raped because their brothers might someday be terrorist?

The older brother was on a watch list, he had no business getting benefits.

Only $10,000 a year and how many other people are getting "only" $10,000 a year that really shouldn't be.    It adds up fast.  If you can't support yourself when you come to this country, maybe you should go home.

Either that or go back to the way the country was when the Statue was placed there.

Immigrants were "entitled"  to take care of themselves, back then.

Quoting LucyMom08:

So I guess we should knock down the Statue of Liberty and all migrate back to our countries of origin...

I don't know about you, but I prefer to not have a hand in letting children starve and die in the streets...immigrants or not...

I don't know about your ancestors but mine came here legally. I will never understand how so many citizens of this country just don't get that allowing soooo many illegal immigrants into this country is dangerous. Coming here legally is fine with me, I just don't want the people who sneak in, I'd like to know if the guy who just moved in down the street and is here illegally is running from the law in his own country
