ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Atheist literature was placed on tables for student to look at in eleven Orange County high schools on Thursday.  This comes after a controversial free handout of bibles in January by a Christian group.

The schools where the pamphlets were placed include: Apopka, Boone, Colonial, Cyprus Creek, Edgewater, Evans, Jones, Timber Creek, University, Wekiva, and Winter Park.

The brochures and booklets included the titles, "What is Wrong with the Ten Commandments?" and "Why Women Need Freedom From Religion."

Atheist organizations, including American Atheists, the Freedom from Religion Foundation, and the Central Florida Freethought Community, asked to passively distribute the materials after the group World Changers of Florida passively distributed bibles at the same schools in January.

Hoping to avoid a lawsuit, Orange County school leaders say they decided to allow the distributions.

Gotta love that lovely Christian teen who admitted to vandalizing the pamphlets because she didn't like seeing them.

Yet there was no vandalism done to the Christian bibles or pamphlets that were set out...

I live a couple miles from Timber Creek high, pass it every day. Had no idea this happened today lol.

I don't quite understand the atheist organizations to be honest. If you don't believe something, that's fine. But to put up this hoopla about organized religion when they have made a religion out of being against religious is laughable.

While I think neither is ok in public schools, if they are going to allow Bible distribution, at least they allowed other literature as well.

I see what the atheists are passing out as equivalent to a group passing out something like Chick Tracks. (? I think that's what they are called)

There's a difference in passing out Bibles and passing out literature that bashes another's beliefs.

This is what I was thinking. It is one thing to speak of your own beliefs, its another thing entirely to deliberately tear down the beliefs of others.

It is a track that Catholics say bash their religion (put out by a Christian group).

ETA: it's actually a tract, not a track.
