Christian Students Claim They're Persecuted in Public Schools

The organization "Reach America" recently released a video called "The Thaw," which it claims was created by the "youth of Reach America."

The professional-looking video features young Christians claiming they are being bullied in public schools and complaining that America is no longer one nation under God.

The Reach America website states:

Christianity is being frozen out in America. It is time for a thaw! Without a doubt, Christian youth are living in an increasingly anti-Christian culture. This isn't the America that we, as parents and grandparents, once knew.

According to ChristianPost.com, the young people in the video are "public school students" who have allegedly been ridiculed for their faith.

In response, they ask numerous questions such as: "Why can't I pray in school? Why are they taking God out of the history books? Why can't Tim Tebow praise God after making a touchdown without causing a national uproar?"

However, some of these questions have obvious answers. Students can pray in school if the prayer is student-led. History classes are not religious classes. People who oppose Tim Tebow have a right to free speech.

The students also express support for Ridgeland, Georgia High School football coach Mark Mariakis who was called out for taking his players to local churches for meals where they had to listen to preaching from pastors, which was reported by WRCB-TV.

The students describe their sex ed class in public school as "pornography."

Later, they claim that America was founded as a "Christian nation," which is not in the U.S. Constitution.

The students falsely claim that the "bible was declared unconstitutional in 1963," when in reality, the U.S. Supreme Court merely ruled that school-sponsored Bible reading in public schools in the United States was unconstitutional.

"The students who created the video are determined not to be frozen out," said Gary Brown, founder of Reach America, who has reportedly been an education consultant for more than 20 years.

"The founding of this nation is based on three things: the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bible, which provides the moral foundation on which we built the country," stated Brown.

Brown claims the students who created the video are "determined to see their country as one nation under God, again."

We aren't a nation under God.

We are a secular nation who protects religious freedom vigorously in part due to secular government and free practice of religion everywhere else.

Christians should be thrilled to be in a country that has First Amendment protection and stop fighting it.

I was thinking about this the other day... Actually, we were watching an old Leave it to Beaver and you know- there was only a handful of religious references in that show, all those years it was on.

And I just have to think that the reason for the freeze out- if indeed it is being so- has exactly nothing to do with the religion or practice of it- but entirely to do with the political pressure some in the Christian faith have decided is necessary for them to participate in if they aren't to be persecuted.

If some of the noisy Christians- like this group- would just chill out, relax, practice their religion freely in their homes and places of worship, rather than insisting their religion is the one in which everyone must participate.

ETA: I forgot to conclude.

IF some of them would chillllll out. Things would be much more friendly, across the board.

I actually pity these kids.    They believe the lies they have been fed by the adults in their life, and actually think that not being able to force the rest of the population to live by their religious beliefs is persecution.      It's a shame that young people are being used in such an underhanded manner.      It leaves them ignorant and vulnerable.

It seems a number of fundamentalist organizations are attempting to circumvent the laws by pushing the preaching and screeching off on students.

They sound ignorant, and that does not surprise me.

Oh dear, these poor poor kids.

Student led or individual prayer in public schools is protected. This movie is bunk, just like the war on Christmas.

Maybe they need to focus more on school and less on god because most of the kids interviewed are totally ignorant when it comes to history and Government.

I wish they would teach these kids what persecution actually is and means in those schools.

Maybe they would stop invoking that word when it doesn't apply.
