Castro Brothers Say They Knew Nothing About Ohio Kidnappings but Are Being Persecuted Nonetheless

by Julie Ryan Evans

Castro BrothersIn addition to the three women and child held captive and tortured in an Ohio House of Horrors, there may two others that were harmed by the actions of accused kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro -- his own brothers. Pedro and Onil Castro were originally detained along with him for their suspected involvement. Now, however, it seems they may have known nothing at all

The men -- who are currently in hiding along with other family members -- were released by police, and authorities say there's no evidence they had anything to do with the abduction or torture of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight. Despite that, however, their lives have been forever altered, and they've been the targets of much hate.

In an interview with CNN, which will air Monday, the men spoke about how they've had rocks thrown through the windows of their homes and have received death threats. They say they're not able to go home and believe that people will always suspect they had some involvement. Pedro said:

I couldn't never think of doing anything like that. If I knew that my brother was doing this ... I would not be, not -- in a minute, I would call the cops because that ain't right. But yeah, it's going to haunt me down because people going to think, yeah, Pedro got something to do with this and Pedro don't have nothing to do with this. If I knew, I would have reported it, brother or no brother.

It's heartbreaking on so many levels. First to realize that someone you share blood with could be such a sick, twisted individual, and you had no clue. But then to have people think you could have anything to do with it is just unimaginable. I feel for them, and hope that with time and perhaps more assurances from police that they had no involvement or knowledge that they can resume their lives as normally as is possible in the wake of this horrific crime.

I have one brother who would do this if he thought he could get away with it. I have no doubt. My other brother would follow him to the end of the Earth if he asked, so he would help.

My brother is very charming, but believes that rules are for other people.

So, I can imagine learning that one of them did something like this.

I would if I had proof she did anything. I'd be the first person to turn her in. But seeing as how I live in Chicago and she lives in Vermont and works up and down the eastern coast, I don't have squat. All I know is that I know her and she's one of the evil people. I'm just waiting for the news report about her.

Quoting EireLass:

And you feel no obligation to inform anyone?

Quoting mehamil1:

I have a cousin who's a sociopath and she takes care of old people. I'm just waiting for the news story to come out about her murdering a long string of elderly people along the east coast.

When I was 15 my mom kidnapped a newbornn baby and stabbeed the mother. before that for years we moved around while she tried to kidnap babies. In high school kids followed me and my siblings around calling us baby killers. People want to take out thier anger even if it is on the wrong person.

I can't imagine anyone in my family doing what that guy did. I am pretty sure that I would have the same reaction his family did though. What that Castro guy did is unforgivable. If he were in my family, I would disown him too.

I'll admit that my family had some characters in it (passed away) but I don't think that they could have done something like this. Hurt someone on the spur of the minute? Yes, but keeping someone locked up for years while torturing and sexually abusing them? No.

I would be devastated.  I love most of my relatives and are indifferent to maybe two, if those two were to do something horrific, I would be surprised but wouldnt invest emotions on them.

Im a Genealogist, and have a few black sheep ancestors, one was charged with stealing a horse. Eventually was pardoned, but still nothing as sick as this.

Quoting meriana:

Doing genealogy I've always wanted to find and have been on the lookout for a "black sheep" but this...uh, that's way way way way too black. I feel sorry for any future genealogists of that family.

Now that's the kind of "black sheep" one expects to find. They usually leave such a nice paper trail too...LOL

I could see it.  Reports indicate the girls were kept in a basement or attic, and that both were sound-proofed and set up to contain the women.  I know my normal houseguests have no need to enter my attic, and before I had a finished basement they had no business down there, either.

I remain on the fence about those two.  The women themselves can tell police whether or not they ever saw the brothers.

Also, keep in mind neighbors and all would go to BBQs at this guy's house.  For nobody to notice a thing, he must have had it covered up very very well.

LOL, there are a few other rumored black sheep-but nothing concrete with paper trail to make it easy to verify :)
