What should Lil Wayne do after the flag-walking flap?

Political protest or accidental flag faux pas?

Filming for Lil Wayne’s “God Bless Amerika” music video in New Orleans is under scrutiny after a clip of his performance shows an oversized American flag drop to the street before Wayne tramples Old Glory as he raps.

It may have been overlooked, if not for the incendiary lyrics in the song:

“My country ‘tis of thee/ sweet land of kill ‘em all and let ‘em die/ God bless Amerika/ This so godless Amerika … the stars on the flag are never shining,” the song, off this year’s “I Am Not a Human Being II,” goes.

“It is the American flag that is draped across the coffins of our fallen heroes when they come back from war. In fact, any veteran can have a flag on their coffin. As such, it’s entitled to the highest respect,” said John Raughter, an American Legion spokesman.

“It is the American flag that is draped across the coffins of our fallen heroes when they come back from war. In fact, any veteran can have a flag on their coffin. As such, it’s entitled to the highest respect,” said John Raughter, an American Legion spokesman.

The one-minute clip shows Weezy, 30, singing in front of the huge red, white and blue flag before it’s let go onto the Hollygrove, New Orleans, street. The drop reveals a group of people standing behind Wayne as he continues to rap, stepping all over the flag as he dances and moves in his hometown.

“All Americans should treat (the flag) with respect,” said John Raughter, an American Legion spokesman speaking generally about the flag and who admitted he had yet to see the clip. “It is the American flag that is draped across the coffins of our fallen heroes when they come back from war. In fact, any veteran can have a flag on their coffin. As such, it’s entitled to the highest respect.”

Desecration of the American flag is protected by the First Amendment so there’s no chance Wayne would face charges for stepping on the Stars and Stripes.

But posted this weekend, just days after the June 14 Flag Day holiday, the video has since gone viral and prompted mostly outrage.

I don't really pay any attention to this kind of music, so...

For those saying the flag is more than fabric, how about requiring the flags you purchase to be made in America rather than China?

I'm not familiar with this guy. From the little I see here, though, I find it interesting that my holy roller born again evangelical Bible thumping right wing step daughter is a fan.  lol. typical.

The flag is just a piece of fabric to me. I take no offense to anyone choosing to stomp on it, set fire to it, spit on it or pee on it.. A piece of fabric isn't a holy relic that represents the united states to me. And, yes, I was married to a marine, have a brother in the marines, a sister who was army, both my parents were army, and I have two friends that went to Afghanistan and came home in a box. His lyrics and overall behavior disturbs me more than him and this flag, that's the least offensive thing I can say about him.

It wouldn't upset me. It's just a picture, it wouldn't hurt anyone.

Can I ask the people who say it's just a piece of cloth, would you be upset if he stomped on a picture of your child? It's only a piece of paper. Not being snarky, I really want to know.

Were there any posts here regarding Flag Day or D-Day?

The only time that would bother me would be if it were the single only photo available.  They wouldn't actually be 'defacing' my child.  It really is just a piece of paper.

Nope I sure wouldn't care. I would think they were a disrespectful asshole, but nothing to get upset about.

This is just him " making a statement", and people shouldn't be giving him so much free publicity for acting foolish.

He has the right to be who he is.

I have the right not to pay any attention to him and to find him rather insignificant.

Personally, I find what he did disgraceful but it doesn't surprise me.
