I know this is going to sound like a weird question but my daughter asked and I have no clue. So, here goes, if a man has an operation to become a woman would she (previously he) be then allowed to marry a man or would it still be considered a ssm?

My BIL is transgender (FTM) and married to a woman. He got his gender legally changed.

If legally your state recognized gender reassignment, then a ftm or mtf could marry the same biological sex. But often they state upon divorce wont recognize it.

Look up that "pregnant man" divorce recently,

Not for the moment, but we'll see what the Supreme Court has to say about Prop 8 this coming week.

So it really boils down to the states stance on gender reassignment. Ok. That makes sense. I'm thinking my state doesn't recognize it.
