American Heritage Boys, Boy Warriors among suggested names for Boy Scouts alternative
American Heritage Boys, American Sons of Liberty, Boy Warriors. These are among the top names suggested for an alternative program to the Boy Scouts of America.
In an email to members and supporters, OnMyHonor.Net, a national organization that opposes the Scouts’ new policy on gay youth, sought input on the top 10 names, which were suggested in an earlier survey. The terms “Scout” and “Scouting” were left out to avoid a legal conflict, the email said.
The survey on the top 10 names, it said, would be closed at 9 p.m. ET Friday. Faith Based Boys and the Coalition were also listed on the email.
OnMyHonor.Net has sponsored rallies opposing the Boy Scouts’ decision this spring to allow openly gay youth beginning in 2014. The organization is affiliated with the National Christian Foundation based in Tampa, Fla.
Some religious leaders in Alabama have said they expect a surge in alternative programs to Scouting, including the Southern Baptist Convention’s Royal Ambassadors program, the Christian Brigade program from England, Pioneer Clubs and others.
Here is the full list of names included in the survey:
American Heritage Boys
American Honor Corps
American Sons of Liberty
