American Heritage Boys, Boy Warriors among suggested names for Boy Scouts alternative

American Heritage Boys, American Sons of Liberty, Boy Warriors. These are among the top names suggested for an alternative program to the Boy Scouts of America.

In an email to members and supporters, OnMyHonor.Net, a national organization that opposes the Scouts’ new policy on gay youth, sought input on the top 10 names, which were suggested in an earlier survey. The terms “Scout” and “Scouting” were left out to avoid a legal conflict, the email said.

The survey on the top 10 names, it said, would be closed at 9 p.m. ET Friday. Faith Based Boys and the Coalition were also listed on the email.

OnMyHonor.Net has sponsored rallies opposing the Boy Scouts’ decision this spring to allow openly gay youth beginning in 2014. The organization is affiliated with the National Christian Foundation based in Tampa, Fla.

Some religious leaders in Alabama have said they expect a surge in alternative programs to Scouting, including the Southern Baptist Convention’s Royal Ambassadors program, the Christian Brigade program from England, Pioneer Clubs and others.

Here is the full list of names included in the survey:

American Heritage Boys

American Honor Corps

American Rangers

American Sons of Liberty

American Trailblazers

Boy Warriors

Patriot Rangers

Young Adventurers

Young American Trailblazers

Youth Rangers

They shouldn't use the names with "Rangers" in the title. The US Army Rangers is a very elite group, it takes a great deal of strength, endurance, and hard work just to get your foot in the door of Ranger school. Any children's organization isn't going to come close to living up to the name.

And, gays are allowed in the Rangers now.

Errrrm. Why do the boyscouts need a new name anyway? I have keen MIA the last week news wise.

I don't like the military-sounding ones. These groups are about camping and learning to survive in the wild, yes? Not training soldiers.

I like Young Adventurers best out of that list.

These are suggested names for an alternative to boy scouts, not a new name for the boy scouts.

Oh okay. I honestly skimmed the article. I should know about it I live on the outskirts of Tampa. LOL I just haven't had any time to be up on the news lately. ;)
